REGISTERED NURSE, RN - STEP DOWN UNIT

Registered Nurse, Rn - Step Down Unit

The RN assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care for a designated group of patients. The RN coordinates, directs and actively participates as an effective member of the interdisciplinary health care team, contributing to the efficient operation of the unit and promoting positive patient outcomes.

Essential job functions include maintaining professional and technical knowledge, assuring quality of care, protecting patients and employees, documenting patient care services, maintaining continuity among nursing teams, maintaining patient confidence, identifying patient care requirements, establishing a compassionate environment, promoting patient's independence, maintaining a safe and clean working environment, resolving patient problems and needs, maintaining a cooperative relationship among health care teams, contributing to team effort, ensuring operation of equipment, maintaining nursing supplies inventory, providing direct oversight of the GN, LPN, Technical Partner, ALS Technician, Nurse Extern and Unit Clerks, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Specialty job functions include interpreting and treating arrhythmias in ICU, caring for a patient requiring ventilator support, and caring for a patient receiving invasive monitoring.

Required qualifications include a graduate of an accredited Nursing Program and current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, critical care experience, open heart experience, and one (1) year Med/Surg or PCU experience.

License, certification, and clearances required include current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program, Act 33 with renewal, Act 34 with renewal, Act 73 FBI Clearance, current ACLS or completion within one (1) year of hire/transfer date into department, and NIH Stroke Scale current or within six (6) months of hire/transfer into department.

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. Incumbents will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.) and travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.
