Reserve Police Officer

The City of Homestead, Florida, is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Reserve Police Officer. This is a reserve/voluntary position with the Police Department. The duties and responsibilities of this role are varied and require a commitment to the protection of lives and property within the community.

The essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Enforcing Federal, State, and County laws and City ordinances.
• Patrolling assigned zones to protect lives and property.
• Performing preliminary investigations of crimes.
• Responding to traffic situations and handling traffic control.
• Handling domestic quarrels and intra-family disturbances.
• Responding to emergency calls and crises, providing aid and assistance.
• Observing and reporting activities of suspicious persons.
• Conducting ongoing community relations activities.
• Responding to requests for service and assisting citizens with law enforcement matters.
• Interviewing and interrogating witnesses and suspects, writing reports.
• Participating in surveillances.
• Checking buildings for security and handling burglar alarm calls.
• Alerting the Fire Department in case of fire and assisting in traffic control.
• Learning to use weaponry with skill and proficiency.
• Testifying in court.
• Operating assigned patrol vehicle and maintaining it.
• Providing escorts to funerals, parades, and other events.
• Learning criminal, civil, and traffic statutes and ordinances.
• Conducting investigations of traffic accidents.
• Performing other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

The position requires participation in the Field Training Officer Program (FTOP) and completion of 480 hours of riding assignment during the first twelve months. A minimum of 24 hours each month is required to maintain status.

Requirements for this position include:

• A high school diploma or its equivalency.
• Meeting State Police Minimum Standards as authorized in F.S. 943.13.
• Completing periodic in-service training and weaponry qualifications.
• Good physical conditioning as evidenced by passing a class "A" physical examination.
• Citizenship of the United States.
• No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude.
• Passing a background investigation, including criminal history screening, psychological evaluation, polygraph examination, and Driver's License review.
• Exclusions for certain employment categories to prevent conflicts of interest.
