Position Title: Howard Hub Specialist - Advising & Retention

FLSA: Non-Exempt

FT/PT: Full Time

Hours Per Week: 37.5

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri

Grade: 10

Compensation Range: $23.89-31.38

Summary: The Howard Hub Specialist is an energetic, second-level customer service position located in the Howard Hub focusing on resolving student inquiries and requests for the Advising, Dual Enrollment, Completion, and Career Services offices. This position is part of a team that collaborates with partner offices to resolve student issues in an efficient and effective manner. The Howard Hub provides centralized and coordinated cross-functional support services for Howard Community College students and families in admissions, financial aid, testing, registration, veteran services, payments, student billing, advising, completion, and career services. The Howard Hub Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert and will provide high-level expertise for the offices of Advising, Dual Enrollment, Completion, and Career Services to resolve student inquiries and requests.

Essential Role Responsibilities:

• Creates a warm and welcoming environment for students and their guests.
• Provides start to finish service and clearly communicates information and action items to help resolve student requests and inquiries.
• Subject matter expert for Advising, Completion, Dual Enrollment and Career Services.
• Determines if the student's inquiry requires further follow-up and directs the inquiry to the appropriate source for resolution, as necessary.
• Employs technology to assist students with navigating self-service.
• Identify trends and bring ideas to improve student service.
• Communicate with faculty and staff across the institution as necessary to resolve conflicting information.
• Maintains working knowledge of FERPA.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Required: Associate's degree

Experience Required:

• Minimum of associate degree, bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of related work experience.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; confidence speaking with people from diverse backgrounds; ability to quickly establish rapport, engage with students and families, and provide follow-through.
• Analytical skills with an in-depth knowledge of information systems and technical expertise with Microsoft Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel, PowerPoint).
• Demonstrated ability to foster a cooperative team-focused work environment.
• Ability to contribute to a dynamic, student-focused team culture that delivers excellent customer service and personal attention to students and families.

• Ability to manage a multitude of tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information and materials while abiding by state and federal privacy laws including FERPA.
• Other Requirements: Regular attendance and an ability to work mornings, evenings and/or weekends consistent with college needs. Criminal background check. Performs all duties while considering the impact of any action on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Physical Demand Summary: Work extended hours during peak periods, including evening and some Saturdays. Extensive follow-up work, database use, responding to inquiries, meetings, etc. Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility required.
