Industrial Instrument Technician - West Point

Summary Industrial Instrument Technician positions are open continuously at King County Wastewater Treatment Division, West Point Treatment Plant, Seattle, WA. Two positions available. About the Role Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and modification of computerized instrumentation systems, including SCADA, DCS, PLC, SLC, HMI, and related electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics. Participate in plant reliability improvement projects and collaborate with operations, engineering, and suppliers. Job Duties Perform installation, preventative maintenance, modifications, upgrades, analysis, and diagnostics on DCS, SCADA, PLCs, SLCs, and HMIs telemetry and networking with proprietary protocols; apply electronic theory, digital electronics, and PID control strategies. Work with operations personnel, engineers, and suppliers to explain functions of processes and procedures for new equipment. Review or modify shop drawings and process documentation to conform with plant standards; assist in inspection of instrumentation installed by contractors; witness and assess loop commission testing. Make recommendations on purchasing and inventory requirements for instrument‑related equipment and determine appropriate spare parts inventory. Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain plant computers, electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, instrumentation, control, and monitoring systems. Qualifications Demonstrated work experience (three years) in a journey‑level industrial instrumentation or related field. Knowledge of physics and chemistry techniques and principles; mathematical techniques including algebra, trigonometry, geometry. Knowledge of installation, configuration, and maintenance of analyzers/sensors, control system computers, single loop controllers, signal converters, distributed and supervisory control systems, detection equipment/sensors, fuses, indicators, isolators, PLCs, pneumatic equipment, control valves, actuators, positioners, flow transmitters, pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, signal conditioning equipment, small motors, switches, tachometer generators, thermocouples, RTDs, transformers, pneumatic and electric actuators. Knowledge of PID control loops, soldering techniques and principles. Knowledge of techniques to analyze industrial processes for design, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of plant control instrumentation. Skill in using a computer and associated software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, SLC and PLC programming; working knowledge of SCADA/DCS, networking and interconnect protocols. Physical Requirements Perform field work; lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds; use ladders. Workplace Exposures Outdoors during wet weather; confined space; possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and noxious odors.
