Aerospace Assembler1st Shift$21-26/hr based on experienceDecatur, ALJob DescriptionWe are seeking detail-oriented Aerospace Assembly Technicians to support a growing aerospace and defense manufacturer in Decatur, AL. In this role, you assemble precision aerospace components and flight hardware while maintaining strict quality, safety, and regulatory compliance standards. You work in a fast-paced, climate-controlled manufacturing environment that supports products for aerospace and defense programs, including DoD and military applications, with a strong focus on AS9100 and ISO9001 quality management systems.ResponsibilitiesAssemble aerospace components, flight hardware, and aircraft sub-assemblies using established work instructions, engineering drawings, technical drawings, and manufacturing documentation.Perform mechanical, electro-mechanical, bench, sub-assembly, final assembly, and production assembly tasks, ensuring precision and consistency across all build operations.Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, technical specifications, schematics, GD&T, bills of materials (BOM), routing sheets, and work instructions to correctly identify parts, processes, and assembly sequences.Use hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, torque wrenches, rivet guns, drill presses, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring and inspection equipment to assemble and verify components.Install aerospace fasteners including rivets, Riv-Nuts, Heli-Coils, threaded inserts, and other hardware, ensuring proper mechanical fastening and verification of nut and fastener integrity.Perform adhesive bonding, epoxy application, cork bonding, surface preparation, masking, coating touch-up, and part finishing according to specified procedures and standards.Conduct visual inspection, in-process inspection, first article inspection (FAI), and final inspection to verify product quality, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with AS9100, ISO9001, FAA, and customer requirements.Identify defects, support root cause analysis, and document non-conformances through Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR) and other quality assurance processes.Execute marking and identification processes such as laser marking, ink stamping, electro-chemical etching, serialization, part marking, bag-and-tag, and product identification to maintain traceability and configuration control.Maintain strict adherence to quality management systems, traceability requirements, configuration control, and documentation practices for aerospace and defense manufacturing.Support manufacturing operations, assembly line operations, production support, kitting, and component integration to meet production schedules and throughput goals.Apply lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles to enhance assembly efficiency, reduce waste, and improve quality and safety.Prevent foreign object debris (FOD) by following cleanliness, organization, and handling procedures throughout the assembly process.Use SAP or other ERP systems to access work orders, routing, bills of materials, and manufacturing documentation as needed.Work collaboratively with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve issues, clarify technical requirements, and ensure on-time delivery of compliant products.Essential SkillsProven experience in aerospace assembly or aerospace technician roles, working with aerospace components, flight hardware, and defense manufacturing environments.Hands-on mechanical assembly experience, including bench assembly, sub-assembly, final assembly, and production assembly in a precision manufacturing setting.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, technical drawings, work instructions, schematics, GD&T, technical specifications, and bills of materials (BOM).Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, torque wrenches, rivet guns, drill presses, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring and inspection equipment.Demonstrated skill installing aerospace fasteners such as rivets, Riv-Nuts, Heli-Coils, threaded inserts, and other mechanical fastening hardware.Experience with adhesive bonding, epoxy application, cork bonding, surface preparation, masking, and part finishing processes.Strong background in quality inspection, including visual inspection, first article inspection (FAI), in-process inspection, and final inspection.Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO9001 quality management systems and their application in aerospace and defense manufacturing.Understanding of FAA compliance, traceability, configuration control, and quality assurance practices for aerospace components.Ability to perform defect identification, support root cause analysis, and document issues through Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR).Mechanical aptitude and precision assembly skills, with careful attention to detail and adherence to technical specifications.Comfort working in a fast-paced, production-focused environment while maintaining high quality and safety standards.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in defense manufacturing, DoD manufacturing, military programs, or work with defense contractors.Background in precision manufacturing, aerospace components, and aircraft component integration.Familiarity with assembly line operations, manufacturing operations, production support, kitting, and component integration processes.Knowledge of manufacturing documentation practices, including routing sheets, manufacturing work instructions, and configuration control records.Exposure to electro-mechanical assembly, precision assembly, and complex production assembly for aerospace and defense products.Understanding of hardware installation verification, including nut and fastener verification procedures.Experience with surface treatments, coating touch-up, and finishing processes for aerospace hardware.Familiarity with IPC standards and general industry standards for electronic or electro-mechanical assemblies.Experience with laser marking, ink stamping, electro-chemical etching, serialization, and product identification methods.Ability to use SAP or other ERP systems to navigate work orders, BOMs, and production routing.Background in lean manufacturing, continuous
