Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced electromechanical products from initial concept through full-scale production. In this role, you take ownership of product architecture, mechanical design execution, validation, and manufacturing readiness while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams in engineering, operations, supply chain, and customer-facing functions. You work on complex products in automotive, energy storage, battery, or industrial applications and thrive in a fast-paced environment where you drive projects forward and provide technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end product development efforts from concept generation through production release for advanced electromechanical products.

• Develop mechanical assemblies, structural components, and enclosure systems using 3D CAD tools.

• Create detailed manufacturing drawings, models, and support documentation to enable accurate production and assembly.

• Participate in system architecture discussions that involve electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing stakeholders to ensure cohesive product design.

• Drive and facilitate design reviews, incorporating feedback and best practices to improve product performance and reliability.

• Support product validation activities, including test planning, execution, and analysis of results.

• Conduct root cause investigations for design-related issues and implement robust corrective actions.

• Support prototype builds and testing activities, ensuring that prototypes meet design intent and performance requirements.

• Assist with product launches by collaborating with production teams to ensure smooth new product introductions.

• Manage engineering bills of materials (BOMs), product revisions, and engineering change processes within appropriate systems.

• Work directly with suppliers to review designs, resolve technical issues, and improve manufacturability and quality.

• Partner with production and operations teams to drive continuous improvement in product design and manufacturing processes.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers, sharing best practices in mechanical and electromechanical design.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in mechanical design and product design for complex electromechanical products.

• Strong in developing mechanical assemblies, structural components, and enclosure systems.

• Hands-on experience creating and managing engineering bills of materials (BOMs), product revisions, and engineering changes.

• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor.

• Experience with electro-mechanical systems, including low-voltage and high-voltage electrical systems.

• Practical knowledge of design for manufacturing (DFM) and assembly processes.

• Experience supporting validation testing and production readiness activities for new products.

• Familiarity with DFMEA or similar structured design risk analysis methodologies.

• Experience working within ERP, PLM, or MRP systems to manage product data and changes.

• Ability to lead cross-functional design reviews and collaborate effectively with engineering, operations, suppliers, and customers.

• Strong problem-solving skills with experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with battery systems, electrification products, energy storage systems, or automotive applications.

• working on continuous improvement initiatives related to product design and manufacturing.

• Experience supporting prototype builds and product launch activities in a production environment.

• Comfort working in fast-paced settings where you take ownership of projects and drive them to completion.

• Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers.

• Strong communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external suppliers.

Work Environment

You work in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment focused on the development and production of advanced electromechanical products. Daily work involves extensive use of 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor, as well as interaction with ERP, PLM, or MRP systems to manage product data, bills of materials, and engineering changes. You regularly collaborate with electrical engineers, manufacturing teams, operations, and suppliers, and you participate in design reviews, prototype builds, validation testing, and product launch activities. The setting combines office-based design and documentation work with hands-on involvement in prototypes and production readiness activities, supporting continuous improvement across design and manufacturing.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $130000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
