Description

Terrain Park Attendants work in a utility capacity across Snowbowl's full terrain park system, including Hart Prairie Start Park, Round Up Rail Garden, Bear Alley Park, Red Tail Terrain Park, and Sunset Terrain Park, moving between tasks to monitor, build, and maintain terrain features to a consistent standard. Shoveling and moving large quantities of snow are a daily part of the job in order to give guests a consistent, safe experience. Attendants promote safety and educate guests on PARK SMART and Your Responsibility Code information and freestyle terrain etiquette, monitor the flow and usage of freestyle terrain, and provide exceptional guest service. Success in this role shows up as consistently maintained, safely inspected terrain features, complete and accurate daily logs, and guests who leave the park having felt welcomed, informed, and safe.

Qualifications

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Install and maintain park signage, closures, trail markings, and fencing across all five Snowbowl terrain parks, including PARK SMART signage, the Orange Oval Freestyle Terrain designation, and XS/S/M/L difficulty signage.
• Perform ongoing monitoring and hand- and cat-assisted maintenance of terrain features and equipment, including rails, jibs, boxes, jumps, and signage, including takeoff and landing shaping and hardware checks.
• Safely operate power and hand tools to build and maintain features.

Inspections & Documentation

• Monitor terrain features by visual inspection and, when assigned, physical testing, consistent with NSAA Freestyle Terrain Resource Guide opening and monitoring practices, and document results on required daily logs.
• Complete all paperwork and documentation, including daily opening and inspection logs, maintenance records, and feature placement logs, accurately and in a timely, professional manner.
• Take ownership of assigned daily inspection, maintenance, and signage tasks in your zone, completing required logs without being told and flagging gaps before they become someone else's problem.

Guest Safety & Education

• Visually identify safety concerns related to park usage and flow, including fencing, signage, rope lines, and terrain park features, and report them immediately to the Terrain Park Supervisor or Ski Patrol.
• Deliver PARK SMART and Your Responsibility Code guest education and model safe, in-control skiing and riding at all times, consistent with NSAA guest-education guidance.

Team & Communication

• Communicate effectively via two-way radio, telephone, or email in a professional manner consistent with company policy and procedures.
• Support onboarding of new attendants and share feedback with the Terrain Park Supervisor on feature conditions and park improvement ideas.

Reliability & Work Conditions

• Show up to work on time, fit for duty, and with an appearance consistent with company policy.
• Work at night or on short notice, occasionally required to assist with terrain park events at Sunset Terrain Park.
• Adhere to all company policies and regulations, including NSAA Freestyle Terrain safety practices (PARK SMART, Your Responsibility Code).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None. This is an individual contributor role.
• May informally support the onboarding of newer attendants but does not have formal supervisory authority.

Job Qualifications:

• High school education/GED; or at least one month of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hiring.
• Advanced freestyle skiing or snowboarding ability.
• Basic understanding of industry-specific terminology and of risk management as it relates to freestyle terrain.
• Basic knowledge of the resort's layout and trail systems.
• Basic familiarity with NSAA Freestyle Terrain feature elements (approach, takeoff, landing) and PARK SMART / Your Responsibility Code messaging.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests and other employees.

Preferred:

• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Completion of PARK SMART / ATML guest-education training, or willingness to complete it within the first season.
• Rail setting and rake techniques.

Core Competencies:

• Mechanical Aptitude: Applies mechanical aptitude with drills, grinders, shovels, rakes, measuring devices, basic hand tools, and hardware to perform daily functions and maintain features on the hill.
• Terrain Shaping: Sees and creates the snow shapes needed to assist with feature building and maintenance.
• Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems or concerns in a timely manner.
• Accountability: Completes assigned inspection, maintenance, and signage tasks and required daily logs accurately and on time without being told, and reports hazards and feature issues immediately.
• Teamwork: Communicates clearly with fellow attendants, Crew Leads, and the Terrain Park Supervisor; supports newer team members and shares feedback on park conditions.

Work Environment:

• Constantly changing environmental conditions, including freezing temperatures, wind, snow, ice, blizzard-like conditions, low visibility, extreme cold, extreme sun, and altitudes exceeding 9,500 feet.
• Requires good stamina, capable of shoveling, raking, and moving large quantities of snow in rotation for 8 to 10 hours a day.
• Must be able to lift, push, or pull heavy objects up to 90 pounds.
• Must be able to walk and balance on snow, and occasionally kneel, crouch, or bend.
• Works safely near heavy equipment and other loud machines, and may be exposed to sub-zero temperatures, frozen, wet, or slick surfaces, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxins or caustic chemicals, loud work environments, and occasional risk of electric shock.
• This is a Winter Resort Area role. Work venues are varied and in many cases include steep stairways, multi-level buildings, and outdoor work areas subject to very cold, sometimes wet, or very sunny conditions. Some facilities are semi-remote and reachable only by chairlift, skis, snowboard, or snowmobile/UTV. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped, and slippery; proper footwear is required indoors and out. Work days and hours, and the number of hours required, will vary.

Success Metrics:

• Daily opening, inspection, and maintenance logs completed accurately and on time for 100% of assigned shifts.
• Safety concerns and feature hazards reported to the Terrain Park Supervisor or Ski Patrol promptly, with no unreported known hazards.
• Assigned terrain features maintained to a consistent standard, verified through supervisor spot checks.
• Positive guest feedback on PARK SMART education and guest service within the assigned park zone.
