Description

American Traveler is hiring a Telemetry RN for a 13-week contract requiring an active IL RN license and at least 18 months of telemetry experience.

Details

• Work in a 42-bed Telemetry unit (4 East/West) within a teaching hospital
• Patient population includes Medical-Surgical, Telemetry (NSTEMI, dysrhythmias), Observation, post cardiac cath (radial and femoral), appendectomies, colectomies, CHF, PNA, sepsis, and abdominal pain cases
• Acuity-based patient ratios of 1:5-6 on days and nights
• 12-hour day and night shifts (0700-1900, 1900-0700) totaling 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to other Med Surg/Telemetry units within scope of practice, with travelers floated first
• EMR: EPIC
• IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing via Pyxis

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of telemetry experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, peripheral IV starts, wound care/dressing changes, central/PICC line management, and NG tube insertion/maintenance
• Experience with non-titrating drips such as amiodarone and Cardizem
• EPIC EMR experience required
• At least one professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including cardiac monitoring, wound care, and line management on a busy telemetry unit
• Supported by CNAs (1:10-12 ratio), charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse (nights), 24/7 RT and hospitalist coverage, and weekday OT/PT/SLP services
• Orientation includes a Monday start with educator-led onboarding and one shift on the unit
• Holiday coverage required: 2 of 3 summer holidays (Memorial Day, Labor Day, July 4th) and 1 from each winter holiday pairing (Thanksgiving/day after, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, New Year's Eve/New Year's Day)
• RTO approval available for up to 7 days
• Block scheduling not accommodated
• No artificial fingernails or extenders permitted during direct patient care; natural nail tips must be kept less than 1/4 inch long
• Navy scrub color required
• Free employee parking provided
• First-time travelers accepted
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
• Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
