Legal Support Specialist

Legal Support Specialist Employment Type: Full-Time, Experienced CGS is excited to expand our team with an experienced Legal Support Specialist dedicated to advancing the legal mission of a prominent federal agency. Key Responsibilities Manage cases under 28 USC §2255 (habeas corpus) and immigration habeas matters, including receiving and docketing, calendaring due dates, liaising with AUSAs/Support Staff for essential documents, drafting responses for review, and ensuring timely filings. Analyze statutes, judicial precedents, and regulations pertinent to assigned complex cases. Assist AUSAs by summarizing key facts, issues, and relevant case law. Draft legal documents, correspondence for attorney signatures, and proposed orders for judges and magistrates. Collaborate with AUSAs to assess applicable administrative laws and identify potential defenses or causes of action. Maintain current knowledge of all relevant federal, state, or local laws and alert AUSAs to any possible concerns during case reviews. Execute other related duties as needed. Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. A minimum of one year of relevant legal experience post-J.D. Proficient in utilizing law library resources and research tools, including Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis, and CourtLink. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with all levels of staff, clients, and stakeholders. Must be a U.S. citizen and capable of passing a background investigation.
