Essential Functions Prepares food items on the Food & Beverage Director's daily menu for residents within the scheduled time frame. Maintains food service areas clean. Monitors inventory. Supervises servers in the absence of the Food & Beverage Director. Maintains a clean, neat, and safe work environment. Demonstrates knowledge of kitchen equipment (ovens, slicers, mixers, steam tables, toasters, coffee pots, refrigerators, freezers). Ensures resident diets are followed. Accounts for resident and employee meals daily. Reports any loss, breakage, or waste of supplies and equipment to the Food & Beverage Director. Communicates problems or potential problems in the dietary department to the Food & Beverage Director. Works autonomously with little or no supervision. Prepares large quantities of food and delivers a superior product. Guides and instructs others in food preparation and serving. Maintains a professional demeanor under stress. Recognizes needs and assists others without prompting. Relates well with other employees and residents. Works safely, is neat and clean. Maintains the current cleaning list and upholds the highest standards for kitchen cleanliness. Respects resident rights and adheres to community policy on resident care. Performs other duties assigned by the Food & Beverage Director. Compliance and Safety Follows all emergency procedures. Understands all safety policies and procedures. Reports on‑job injuries to the Food & Beverage Director before the end of the work shift. Communication Communicates effectively with the Food & Beverage Director and other staff. Immediately advises the Food & Beverage Director of any changes in a resident's physical or mental health. Maintains an acceptable attendance record, notifying the chef if expected to be late or unable to work in accordance with community HR policies and procedures, and follows the work schedule. Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification ServSafe certification required. Knowledge of food preparation health and safety regulations. Knowledge of cooking times and temperatures in accordance with state guidelines. Knowledge of various cuts of meat and seasonings. Demonstrates a wide range of food preparation skills. Experience in dealing with seniors and their dietary needs. Ability to read, write, and speak English. Physical Requirements Physically able to bend and reach. Physically able to push, pull, and lift up to 40–50 pounds if necessary. Physically able to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to work in a hot/humid environment for extended periods. May be exposed to burns from hot foods, cuts from knives, and falls on slippery floors if caution is not used. Can determine the quality and palatability of food through taste and smell.
