Pharmacy Technician

Join Our Team!Spanish and Karen bilingual applicants encouraged to apply for any open positions in which you are qualified.Reports To: Director of PharmacyStatus: 80 hours per two week pay periodShift: 7:30am - 6:00pm or 9:00am - 7:30pm rotating days and weekends, 4 days per weekJob Schedule: Full timeWeekly Hours: 40 hoursPay/Benefits: HRMC offers a competitive salary and benefits package.Position Purpose:Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or HRMC Pharmacist and according to standard pharmacy practice, performs a variety of support functions including assisting pharmacist in storage, preparation, dispensing, charging, and distribution of sterile and non-sterile medications; maintaining records and inventory; assuring medications are available in a timely manner for patient administration.Essential Job Functions:Demonstrates the mission of the hospital is met by demonstrating the Core Values:Respectful-We value the unique talents, ideas, contributions, and circumstances of each individual.Engaged-We value being active, positive participants at work and in our communities.Available-We value providing local access to care for our communities while being present for each other.Competent-We value knowledge, people-centered, innovative, and technology driven teams.Helpful-We value always helping others with kindness and compassion.Works with the pharmacists to maintain appropriate levels of medication inventory utilizing cost effective practices for purchasing products.Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing products and supplies in appropriate areas and limit monetary loss through outdating products.Accurately repackages bulk products into unit-dose packaging with final pharmacist check prior to restocking bins.Promptly completes Omnicell pick lists and timely deliveries after pharmacist final check.Completes Omnicell replenishes in a timely manner assuring products are stored in correct bins, rotated, correct quantity, and correct expiration. Pulls any outdated or recalled items as returns.Restocks medication storage cabinets in patient care areas accurately and notifies pharmacist of concerns.Assures that any outdated or unusable products are not placed back into active storage but removed to be processed through reverse wholesaler returns or properly discarded into appropriate waste containers. Completes documentation of monthly outdated pulls.Prepares Compounded Sterile Products (CSPs) accurately with appropriate technique. Follows infection control procedures and universal precautions as applicable to established policies and procedures.Refers all concerns and questions concerning medications, patients, staff, and storage to supervising pharmacist or Director of Pharmacy.Other Job Duties:Observes appropriate professional communication during phone usage and addressing drop off/pick up window. Utilizes the communication tool of the month.Observes safe practices per policy and procedures for handling medications, chemicals, contaminated materials, hazardous materials, and bio-hazardous materials.Participates in quality and risk management by maintaining appropriate documented logs, collected data through monitoring required by compliance programs.If the opportunity is available participate in an employee experience committee, patient experience committee, department specific committee, etc.Organizes and prioritizes work and performance of duties independently with minimal supervision. Accurately charges and credits medications to patient accounts.Keeps pharmacy area clean, neat, and well organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean and in condition. Reports and documents all hazardous conditions, malfunctions, failures, and errors affecting safety.Assists pharmacist in training new pharmacy staff.RequirementsQualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience) High school graduate or equivalent with good math aptitude and computer skills.Prior hospital related experience preferred but not required.Registration with SD Board of Pharmacy as Certified Pharmacy Technician (within 30-days of employment) or elevate to a Certified Pharmacy Technician within 18 months of employment.Qualify to enroll into continuing education for certified pharmacy technician to maintain certification as required by SD Board of Pharmacy.Complies with policies and procedures dictated by laws and regulations, either State or Federal, meeting compliance.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Assumes responsibility for professional development. Participates in department meetings, education programs, and mandatory meetings.Demonstrates sound judgement consistent with education, training, and certification requirements. Completes all required education, training, testing, and competency as required for annual compliance.Has communication skills representative of a medical professional, positive and informative. Demonstrates problem solving skills and can communicate resolution.Maintains confidentiality of patient identifiable information for work purposes. Understands patient rights and staff rights without compromising patient care.Demonstrates and understands Core Values, Excellence, and Mission of HRMC.Physical Aspects of the Job: Physical stamina is requisite to standing, walking, stooping, pulling, pushing, reaching, lifting to move and transport medications and supplies in various transport modes throughout the facility.Visual, auditory, and speech acuity is requisite to verbal and written communication with pharmacists, employee staff, medical providers, nursing staff, patients and families, and other persons associated with care.Work involves much one-on-one interaction with department staff and HRMC staff.
