Key Responsibilities- Operate digital fluoroscopic and portable radiology equipment under general supervision to capture routine radiographs of specified body areas, following physician instructions and radiographic protocols.
- Apply radiology expertise to serve patients of all ages while complying with radiation safety and organizational policies. Demonstrate proficiency in general radiology and fluoroscopy by acquiring and assessing ordered images for technical quality, ensuring correct patient identification and image labeling.
- Engage in departmental and organizational initiatives aimed at improving performance, enhancing workflows, patient experiences, quality, safety, and operational efficiency. Actively participate in training and educational activities for students and staff.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including preparing and cleaning patient rooms. Ensure adequate supplies and inventory are available in your assigned area.
- Communicate effectively with patients to gather medical histories, address inquiries, and explain procedures to ensure their understanding and comfort.
- Ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of equipment by conducting quality control activities and promptly reporting any equipment or environmental issues.
- Provide patient education and support, including preparing patients for procedures and addressing their physical and emotional needs. Escalate concerns through appropriate channels as necessary.
- Manage patient flow and coordinate care through consistent communication with patients, the care team, and families. Document patient care activities in electronic health record systems and ensure timely distribution of final images to the PACS system for interpretation.
- Consistently demonstrate professionalism in actions and communication, embodying the organization’s core values and fostering a respectful and supportive atmosphere for patients, families, and colleagues. Adhere to the ARRT Standards of Ethics.
- Follow departmental policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols, ensuring compliance with federal, state, professional, and accreditation requirements.
- Take direction from leadership, ensuring adherence to established protocols, maintaining patient flow, and seeking clarification when necessary.
- Associate’s degree is required; or
- Certificate in Radiologic Technology (awarded before January 1, 2015) from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) is required.
- No prior work experience is necessary.
- Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire in Maryland; required within 90 days of hire in Washington, D.C.
- Must hold a valid Radiologic Technologist license in the applicable state (Maryland or Virginia) upon hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills are preferred.
This position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from USD $29.73 to USD $48.63.
