Power Plant Controls Engineer – Generation Development & Construction (DEV0005) Evergy is committed to leading the Responsible Portfolio Transition. Evergy’s 2024 Triennial Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) calls for 3,600 MW of new wind and solar and 2,445 MW of new conventional generating assets over the next ten years. We are seeking a technically strong and collaborative Controls Engineer to support the development, construction, and commissioning of conventional generation projects. Reporting to the Manager – Conventional Generation Engineering, the engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Owner’s Engineers, EPC contractors, major equipment suppliers, and internal Transmission & Substation teams to ensure safe, timely, cost‑effective, and environmentally sound project delivery. The engineer will assist with complex, multi‑million‑dollar capital projects with multi‑year timeframes that span diverse disciplines, including simple cycle and combined cycle combustion turbines. This candidate will provide engineering support to the development, construction, and commissioning of controls systems. Key Responsibilities Provide technical oversight to enforce contract requirements on EPC contractors and major equipment suppliers. Coordinate with OE, EPC, Power Island suppliers, and internal teams to ensure project success. Promote safety and contribute to a positive team culture. Support multi‑disciplinary, multi‑year capital projects with high complexity and value. Evaluate control system architecture, logic diagrams, instrument lists, and I/O schedules. Review and develop specifications for major I&C equipment including DCS, PLCs, sensors, transmitters, analyzers, and control valves. Ensure proper integration of GT, ST, HRSG, and balance‑of‑plant (BOP) control systems. Participate in vendor evaluations and ensure technical compliance for control systems. Witness FATs for DCS, PLC panels, and critical instrumentation. Monitor delivery schedules and inspect installation of instruments, control panels, and wiring. Act as onsite lead for all controls engineering RFIs and oversight. Education and Experience Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
• At least four years of engineering experience in the design, construction and/or maintenance of power plant control systems.
• Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.
• Chemical and Industrial Engineers will also be considered.

Additional Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Knowledge of GE Mark VIe, Mitsubishi, Emerson Ovation, and/or Siemens T3000 control systems is required. Troubleshooting of operating issues with plant control systems is expected. OEM certification is preferred. The successful candidate must possess high initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and good computer skills. Licenses or Certificates Required Valid driver’s license. Satisfactory work record including good attendance. EIT or PE is preferred. Working Conditions Must be able to perform physical activities of the job, including extensive on‑site plant work and some office work. Requires the ability to work outdoors and in an industrial plant environment, including exposure to ambient temperature extremes, dusty/moist environments, climbing ladders and stairways, working at heights on elevated structures and platforms, and working in cramped spaces, which may require bending, stooping, and standing. Travel to development sites is expected, ranging from at least 10% of the time up to 100% during peak construction and commissioning, including some in‑state and out‑of‑state travel.
