Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice, Internal Medicine - Geriatrics

Faculty Position in Division of Geriatrics at UTMB

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice within the Division of Geriatrics. This position emphasizes high-quality, age-focused clinical care, active participation in teaching, and engagement in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of faculty focused on improving health outcomes for older adults and advancing excellence in geriatric education.

The Division of Geriatrics at UTMB is dedicated to improving the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults through excellence in clinical care, education, and research. With 8 faculty, 8 advanced practice providers and 2 to 4 fellows per year, the Division provides comprehensive geriatric care across diverse settings, including ambulatory clinics, inpatient consult services, long-term care facilities, and the home environment through our House Call Program. The House Call Program is a cornerstone of the Division's missiondelivering compassionate, high-quality care to homebound older adults. The Division also leads UTMB's Acute Care for Elders (ACE) Unit, a dedicated inpatient program designed to optimize outcomes for hospitalized older adults.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provide comprehensive outpatient and/or inpatient care for older adults, addressing complex medical, cognitive, and functional conditions.
• Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and other learners in both clinical and didactic geriatric settings.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teamsincluding nursing, pharmacy, social work, and rehabilitationfor optimal care of older adults.
• Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and geriatric-focused academic programs

Minimum Qualifications:

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Fellowship trained and board certified or board-eligible in Geriatrics, and board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
• Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in an academic medical center or teaching environment.
• Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, quality improvement projects, or curriculum development in geriatric care.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
