Early Childhood Teacher

Worthwoods Elementary reports to the principal and director of student services. The qualifications include a bachelor's degree in early childhood education with coursework in the instruction of at-risk students, appropriate licensure as required by Illinois law with endorsement in early childhood education, knowledge of Illinois professional teaching standards, demonstrated best practices in the instruction of young at-risk students, the ability to work collaboratively with others to optimize student achievement, a willingness to participate in staff development and professional learning opportunities, and a strong commitment to professional excellence. The start date is August 2026.

Duties and responsibilities include understanding central concepts, methods of inquiry, and structures of disciplines, evaluating teaching resources and curriculum materials, facilitating learning experiences, analyzing individual and group performance, introducing concepts and principles at different levels of complexity, facilitating a learning community, using instructional strategies and technologies, understanding Illinois learning standards, establishing expectations for students' learning, understanding principles of effective classroom management, maintaining proper classroom decorum, using strategies to create a smoothly functioning learning community, using multiple teaching and learning strategies, modeling accurate communication, understanding assessment as a means of evaluating student learning, using assessment results to diagnose learning needs, maintaining records of students' work and performance, initiating collaboration with others, working with colleagues to develop an effective learning climate, developing relationships with parents and guardians, coordinating and collaborating in directing the activities of a classroom paraprofessional, acting as a reflective practitioner, participating in professional dialogue and continuous learning, understanding education as a profession, following codes of professional conduct, following school policy and procedures, demonstrating positive regard for individual students and their families, promoting and maintaining a high level of integrity in the practice of the profession, practicing effective literacy techniques, modeling effective reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, maintaining and developing knowledge and skills in learning technologies, using computers and other learning technologies to support problem-solving, data collection, information management, communications, presentations, and decision-making, using productivity tools for word processing, database management, and spreadsheet applications, planning and delivering instructional units that integrate a variety of software, applications, and learning tools, practicing socially responsible, ethical, and legal use of technology, information, and software resources, maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records, maintaining a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities, attending staff meetings, and observing and following all district policies and procedures.
