PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Peer Support Specialist Overview Under the direction of a Peer Support Supervisor and Clinical Program Manager, the Peer Support Specialist provides peer support of guidance and encouragement based upon lived experience to community members and clients. Services are delivered at drop‑in centers (Bright Vista Youth Center, Safe Haven Wellness and Recovery Center), the clinic, and within the community. The role facilitates wellness and recovery groups and responds to behavioral health crises alongside the department’s crisis team. Responsibilities Provide peer support through wellness and recovery groups, outreach services, and crisis response to residents of Colusa County. Facilitate wellness and recovery group sessions at drop‑in centers and the clinic. Respond to behavioral health crises in the community as part of the crisis team. Assist with outreach and community engagement activities. Maintain client confidentiality and uphold professional standards. Training and Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Experience Past or present consumer of mental health or substance use treatment, or a family member with such experience. Experience sharing lived experiences to recognize mental health risks and protective factors. Volunteer or paid work in community settings such as school volunteer, parent advocate, church ministry, senior center, community events, health fairs, vaccination clinics, support programs, or similar. Strong understanding of mental health client culture and challenges faced by adults and youth experiencing behavioral health issues. Current involvement with mental health culture and local community preferred. Customer service skills; bilingual in Spanish preferred. Benefits Safe work community. Work‑life balance.
