Estimator - Temp Power Solutions - 5K Power

About 5K Power 5K Power is a multi-disciplinary electrical solutions company operating across four business units: Electrical Prefab, Skidding, Temp Power Solutions, and UL Manufacturing. This position sits within Temp Power Solutions, which provides temporary power distribution, generators, and related equipment to keep construction sites, events, and industrial projects running safely and on schedule.

Position Summary The Estimator – Temp Power Solutions develops accurate, competitive cost estimates and proposals for temporary power projects, including generators, distribution equipment, cable, and related rentals. The role reviews site requirements, performs takeoffs, sources vendor/rental pricing, and collaborates with operations and project management to ensure bids reflect equipment availability, logistics, and true job costs.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating, Bidding & Takeoffs

• Review project requirements, site plans, and specs to build cost estimates for generators, transformers, cable, and distribution panels.

• Conduct site data reviews or assessments to evaluate power demands and equipment rental needs.

• Perform takeoffs and solicit/evaluate vendor and rental quotes for equipment and materials.

• Prepare and submit accurate, competitive proposals within required deadlines.

Operations Collaboration & Cost Management

• Work with operations and project managers to confirm equipment availability, logistics, and scheduling assumptions.

• Track rental rates, labor costs, and historical job data to continuously improve estimating precision.

• Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining safety, reliability, and code compliance.

Process & Bid Administration

• Participate in bid reviews, scope clarifications, and contract negotiations.

• Maintain organized estimate files, bid logs, and documentation for awarded and lost proposals.

Qualifications

Required:

• Education: High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.

• Experience: 3+ years of estimating experience in temporary power, electrical distribution, generator rental, or a related industry.

• Skills: Proficient reading electrical and site plans; strong math, analytical, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.

• Software: Experienced with Microsoft Excel and industry estimating software.

• Strong understanding of temporary power systems (generators, distribution panels, cabling, transformers).

• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and temporary power safety standards.

Physical Requirements

• Primarily an office environment with occasional site visits to evaluate power requirements or review job status.

• Ability to sit/stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
