Senior Roadway Engineer & Detroit Metro Transportation Lead Department: Transportation Location: Detroit, MI The Mannik & Smith Group (MSG) is expanding its Transportation Team in Michigan and seeks a Senior Roadway Engineer & Detroit Metro Transportation Lead to drive roadway and utility design projects in a fully 3D digital environment . The role includes supervisory responsibilities overseeing a team of seven designers and offers significant professional growth. Key Responsibilities Lead the preparation of roadway design plans and 3D models for local agency projects Perform and review design calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance Prepare design packages for milestone client submittals, including estimates, special provisions, and RID packages Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing team Support MDOT projects as needed, applying similar expertise and leadership Oversee and manage a team of seven designers , ensuring successful project delivery and professional development Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering 12‑15 years of experience working with MDOT transportation and Local Agency Michigan PE with the ability to become registered in other states Knowledge of OpenRoads ORD design software is required; AutoCAD/Civil3D is a plus Experience serving as a PM Desire and ability to manage a team Benefits 401(k) with company match Health insurance with HSA option, Vision, Dental, Life Flexible schedule Paid time off Referral program Tuition reimbursement Catalytic Coaching – Employees draft a development plan aimed at improving contributions in their current job and increasing the potential for other opportunities It is the policy of our company to follow equal employment opportunity procedures in compliance with federal, state and local criteria.
