Position Overview

We're looking for an experienced Specialty Pharmacy Technician who is as strong on the phone as they are at the workstation. Our patients are often navigating IVF, egg freezing, or serious diagnoses, frequently on tight, time-sensitive treatment calendars. They need someone who can explain next steps clearly, follow through without being chased, and keep clinics, insurers, and pharmacists aligned.

This is not an entry-level role . You'll step into a high-volume specialty workflow from day one, so we're looking for someone who already knows specialty pharmacy operations, insurance, and PrimeRx and can contribute quickly.

Key Responsibilities

Patient and provider communication

• Serve as a primary point of contact for patients by phone and text: confirming orders, explaining coverage and out-of-pocket costs, scheduling deliveries, and sending refill reminders.

• Communicate with warmth and patience during sensitive moments, especially for fertility patients working against cycle start dates and medication timelines.

• Coordinate with fertility clinics and prescriber offices to resolve missing information, clarify orders, and keep them updated on patient status.

• Escalate clinical questions, such as dosing, administration, and side effects, to the pharmacist promptly, and support pharmacist consultations with documentation and follow-up.

• Keep clear, accurate notes so any teammate can pick up a patient's case without missing a beat.

Prescription processing and access

• Receive, enter, and process prescriptions from fertility clinics and specialty providers in PrimeRx.

• Run insurance claims and resolve rejections, and manage prior authorizations, manufacturer copay programs, and foundation or patient assistance applications.

• Coordinate next-day nationwide shipping, including cold-chain packaging and delivery logistics.

• Follow all federal, New York State, and HIPAA requirements, applicable USP standards, and Prima's quality assurance protocols.

• Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment where errors are costly to patients.

Required Qualifications

• At least 2 years of hands-on pharmacy technician experience in a specialty pharmacy setting.

• Proven experience with MicroMerchant Systems (PrimeRx) , including prescription processing, claims adjudication, inventory, and patient management modules.

• Demonstrated patient-facing communication skills : comfortable handling a high volume of calls, explaining insurance and cost information in plain language, and staying calm and empathetic with anxious or frustrated patients.

• Strong written communication for patient messages, clinic correspondence, and case documentation.

• Hands-on experience with insurance billing, prior authorizations, and rejection resolution for specialty drugs.

• Strong organization and ability to manage multiple patients and deadlines at once.

• Proficiency with computers, electronic health records, and basic pharmacy calculations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a fertility/IVF specialty pharmacy or reproductive health setting.

• Experience with injectables, cold-chain handling, or other high-cost, complex therapies.

• Knowledge of manufacturer copay assistance, foundation programs, and specialty insurance navigation.

• National certification (PTCB CPhT or NHA ExCPT).

• Bilingual (Spanish or another language), a plus for patient support.
