Qualifications• H.S. Diploma or GED required• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification authorized by International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO) or Optometrist (OPT) license authorized by Texas Optometry Board required• 2 years of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry office requiredResponsibilities• Performs visual acuity, color vision testing, lensometry, exophthalmometry, Amsler grid, Schirmer test, pupil evaluation, anterior chamber depth assessment, stereo testing, ocular motility on extraocular muscle actions, strabismus, amblyopia, and assessment methods on children and adults• Performs basic instrument maintenance on ophthalmoscopes, retinoscopes, lensometers, perimeters, tangent screen, phoropter/trial frames, slit lamps, keratometers, muscle light, and surgical instruments• Participates in hospital quality improvement activities, offers written or verbal recommendations and participates in the yearly development of team goals • Attends clinic staff meetings and reads minutes 90% of the time to keep abreast of current information as documented in the meeting sign-in sheets• Assists physician in examining ROP infants in both the inpatient and outpatient setting• Coordinates appointments, compiles list and tracks active ROP infants• Provides and/or arranges for and documents the training of department staff to assure efficient department support staff operations and department-wide compliance with Hospital and JCAHO standardsAbout the companySince 1954, Texas Children’s has been leading the charge in patient care, education and research to accelerate health care for children and women around the world.
