Student Help Job Summary: Position Summary : The Upward Bound Academic Year Chaperone plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, supervision, and engagement of students during trips, events, and programs. This position is responsible for monitoring student behavior, enforcing rules, and providing support to students while promoting a positive and inclusive environment.
Primary responsibilities may include but not limited to:
- Supervise and accompany students during off-campus trips, campus tours, events, or overnight stays
- Take attendance and help track student locations during transitions and activities
- Enforce program rules and expectations consistently and respectfully
- Serve as a role model by demonstrating appropriate behavior and communication
- Always ensure the safety and well-being of all participants
- Serve as a resource and mentor to participants in developing their academic, social, and personal skills and overcoming challenges.
- Understand and follow Youth Protection policies
- Handle confidential information with discretion
- Participate in training and orientation prior to events
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- $15/hour
- Must be a currently enrolled UWSP student in good academic standing (minimum 2.50 GPA)
- At least one year of college course work completed at a postsecondary institution by June 2025
- Must be enrolled at an institution of higher education (undergraduate or graduate)
- Experience in chaperoning youth, preferably economically disadvantaged youth
- Interest in education or human services related career fields and/or former experience as a TRIO Program participant
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively
- Demonstrate ability to be flexible, adaptable and team oriented
- Demonstrate responsible and professional conduct to ensure program goals are met.
- Ability to model effective conflict resolution and being a positive community member
- Availability to work weekend hours from Friday afternoons through late Saturday afternoon (including overnight)
- Two years of college course work completed at a postsecondary institution.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Ability to work with high school students from underrepresented populations
- Experience working with youth programming and/or residential summer camps
- Tutoring experience
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- First Aid, CPR and/or Lifeguard certifications
- Familiarity with TRIO and Upward Bound Programs
