Assistant Coach

$4,000 per month

Overview Big Bend Community College (BBCC) invites applications for part‑time Assistant Coaching positions in volleyball, wrestling, basketball, baseball, and softball. The position assists the Head Coach in student‑athlete development consistent with Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) standards and BBCC’s guiding principles. The role is part‑time, seasonal (September through June), overtime‑exempt, and offers a stipend of up to $4,000, pro‑rated based on the start date. Additional campus employment may be available based on qualifications and interest. Responsibilities Provide quality coaching and instruction to student athletes; develop, implement, and teach training sessions and techniques. Assist the Head Coach in teaching individual skills and strategies; build, develop, and evaluate teamwork; enforce training rules. Assist in maintaining BBCC athletic facilities used by the program. Supervise student athletes on trips and onsite during all program‑related practices, games, and functions. Monitor and support the academic performance, leadership, and progress of student athletes with an emphasis on retention throughout the year. Scout and recruit student athletes who are academically and athletically qualified for intercollegiate competition. Collaborate with the Head Coach to maintain and update records on athletes, including eligibility, budgets, recruitment, and transportation. Serve as a role model and assist team members in developing appropriate attitudes, behaviors, and values. Assist in post‑season evaluation of all players. Establish and maintain positive relationships and effective communication with high school coaches and programs. Conduct intercollegiate programs in accordance with NWAC and college rules and regulations. Fully participate in athletic activities, departmental meetings, outreach, fundraising events, and other relevant functions as needed. Help organize fundraising activities to enhance and develop athletic programs. Behave consistently with the NWAC codebook, including coach’s code of conduct, standards & procedures, concussion management, and required tests. Follow all BBCC guidelines, administrative procedures, and policies surrounding athletics. Promote BBCC athletic programs in the college district. Maintain sensitivity and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff from varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to coach students effectively and evaluate their performance. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, colleagues, and the public. Personal attributes necessary to motivate students, guide behavior development, and facilitate technical skill performance. Sensitivity to the diverse socioeconomic, academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Ability to work closely with students to achieve educational goals. Knowledge of athletic conditioning principles, including weight training and athletic training. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience as a player or coach in volleyball, wrestling, basketball, baseball, or softball. Current First Aid/CPR certification (or will obtain if selected). Valid unrestricted Washington State driver’s license.Experience working within a diverse environment, inclusive of individuals of varying social, ability, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds. Desirable Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Coaching and/or playing experience at the collegiate level. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty, students, and staff within a campus community and resolve conflicts. Teaching and team‑building experience related to student athletes. Program fundraising and development experience. Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and database programs. Bilingual English/Spanish fluency. Other Aspects of the Position Availability for recruiting, practices, and games during weekday afternoons, evenings, and weekends during the school year. Must be able to work required hours for coaching, recruiting, classes/practices, and competition (including evenings and weekends). Must be familiar with the BBCC Student Athlete Code of Conduct.
