The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Division of Northern Region Support Services is recruiting for a Safety Officer in Juneau!
What you will be doing:
Under general direction of the Southcoast Region Maintenance and Operations Specialist, establish and implement regional health & safety programs, and ensure that program planning, implementation, and enforcement of policies and programs are conducted within the region. Develop and direct health & safety programs. Serve as the regional primary contact to USDOL, USEPA, and ADOL. Negotiate agreements and settlements within regulatory compliance. Participate in regulation development and implementation with other departments and agencies. Provide technical assistance in developing and directing cost effective solutions to achieve compliance in health and safety. Monitor Maintenance and Operations, Design and Construction, Facilities, and State Equipment Fleet to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local statutes and regulation.

  • Incumbent must be knowledge in a myriad of subject, each subject requires a certification or approval from the approving agency: Professional Safety Officer either: Certified Safety Professional-American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), or Health and Safety, Inc (IBOEHS) First Aid/CPR/AED must be certified by Medic First Aid, Inc (current program) OSHA subjects must be certified and approved by OSHA, US Dept of Labor, as an OSHA Trainer
  • Fire Extinguisher inspections must be approved and licensed by State of Alaska, Division of Fire and Life Safety
  • AK Drivers' License is recommended

  • Mine Safety and Health: Knowledge of mine safety and health principles and practices, techniques and procedures, regulations, and standards as they apply to conducting inspections/investigations, identifying and evaluating unsafe conditions, and recommending methods to correct unsafe conditions.
