School-Based Teacher of the Visually Impaired

Job Summary: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Austin, TX)
- Provide direct specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, including blindness and low vision.
- Adapt curriculum, materials, and assessments to meet individual student needs.
- Teach Braille, assistive technology, and compensatory skills.
- Support students in achieving grade-level academic standards.
- Participate in evaluation, development, and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals.
- Attend and contribute to ARD/IEP meetings; ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, administrators, and families.
- Provide recommendations and training for classroom adaptations and accessibility.
- Assess and recommend assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
- Ensure instructional materials are available in accessible formats (Braille, large print, digital).
- Maintain strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to educational equity, student achievement, and relationship-building with students and families.
- Preferred: Experience with students who are blind/low vision, Expanded Core Curriculum, assistive technology, and inclusive education settings.
