Job Description Adjunct Instructor – English (In-person classes) Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Prepare, instruct, and grade all class coursework. Assign final grades and deliver grade justification sheets. Assist students with grade issues, answer questions, and maintain appropriate communication. Maintain a safe and effective classroom environment. Participate in department, division, and general adjunct faculty meetings. Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements Required: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in English, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in English. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven teaching skills with ability to convey basic concepts and theories in a practical and comprehensible way. Ability to recognize and respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds and willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process. Computer literacy and experience using computers in the classroom, with willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches. All instructors must meet the credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS). Preferred: Doctorate in English; 2–5 years teaching experience at a post‑secondary institution. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Instruct assigned classes. Grade all quizzes, tests, and written assignments. Assign final grades and deliver grade justification sheets. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students. Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods, present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and occasionally carry items exceeding 25 pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines such as copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other necessary equipment.
