Special Projects Manager, EPR Office of the Deputy Commissioner

The Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (OEPR) promotes DOHMH’s and NYC’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from health emergencies through the coordination of agency-wide emergency preparedness planning, training and exercises and through regular engagement with communities as well as city, state and federal partners. OEPR envisions a healthy, resilient city in which all New Yorkers are able to achieve and maintain optimal and equitable health outcomes before, during, and after emergencies. OEPR’s work recognizes the social inequities that can negatively impact our efforts to maintain and improve the health of New Yorkers during and after a disaster. OEPR works to improve its application of social justice and racial equity to its emergency preparedness and response work to ensure the most equitable post-disaster public health outcomes possible. Duties Will Include But Are Not Limited To Manage or support special projects and strategic initiatives for the division. Examples include the agency’s Divisional Accountability Meetings for program performance management and OEPR staff engagement and resilience initiatives. Lead preparation for and attend high-level meetings with agency and City leadership including synthesizing complex information quickly for reports, briefings, analyses, program updates, divisional policies, and ad hoc requests and collaborating with key stakeholders at various levels across the division and the agency to ensure execution of projects/initiatives. Track and ensure completion of Deputy Commissioner review and approval of various division communications, documents and products, including but not limited to agreements, plans, policies and training. Provide the Deputy Commissioner with regular updates on current projects by gathering information from program leads, prompting them for any necessary actions and documentation progress. Plan division-wide events as requested, including all staff divisional meetings, training and retreats. Prepare materials and maintain records of select meeting proceedings and follow-ups, monitor and track tasks, and ensure deliverables and deadlines are met. Oversee the coordination of responses to ad hoc requests from agency leadership and City Hall, collaborating with and triaging to appropriate staff and ensuring proper follow-up. Manage completion of surveys or other related materials, which require gathering feedback from staff across OEPR and/or agency. Develop and coordinate responses for speaking engagements, meetings and briefings and coordinate approvals for OEPR staff external presentations to ensure timely completion of deadlines. Respond to public health emergencies when called upon. Preferred Skills Exceptional judgement, solutions oriented and ability to both take direction and make decisions independently. Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to work with individuals at various levels, including executives. Experience working independently and in teams. Experience with project management and coordination. Exceptional attention to detail, organizational and time management skills. A minimum of 3 years work experience in public health and/or healthcare emergency preparedness and response, or related experience. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited college in emergency management, public health, disaster management, emergency preparedness/administration, public administration, or related field and one (1) year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following area(s): emergency preparedness planning/management, emergency medical services, fire or public safety, law enforcement, homeland security, public health, mental health, environmental/occupational health and safety or a related specialized area; or A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one of the areas described in “1” above; or A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However all candidates must have a minimum of one (1) year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one of the areas described in “1” above.
