Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Abdominal Transplant

Abdominal Transplant Unit This unit consists of 37 beds and provides comprehensive care for patients undergoing Pre‑Liver Transplant, Liver Transplant, Kidney Transplant, Pancreas Transplant, Small Bowel Transplant, and Hand Transplant. General Description of the Job Class Assume responsibilities for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician in a patient care area. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the LPN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Duties and Responsibilities Provide and document direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. Deliver care guided by physician orders and the nursing plan of care. Report patient responses to care to a registered nurse for evaluation, intervention, and plan modification. Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care. Assist physicians and nursing personnel in the performance of various diagnostic procedures. Evaluate nursing care with emphasis on nursing procedures and patient responses. Assist in developing and implementing general policies, including new policy formulation. Maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources. Identify clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assist in performance improvement activities. Control material resources, assist in equipment appraisal, and report malfunctions to the charge nurse. Participate in in‑service education programs and conferences within the service. Assist in the training of new employees. Perform other duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications Graduation from an approved or accredited Practical Nurse program. No prior experience required. Current North Carolina LPN licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). BLS required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the scope of licensed practical nurse and ability to delegate to nursing support staff. Comprehensive knowledge of patient care and special procedures relevant to practical nursing. Solid communication skills with patients, families, healthcare team, physicians, and administrators. Teaching ability for patients and families according to the nursing plan of care. Strong cognitive processing to prioritize information and follow up on treatment plans. Proficient in BLS and other specialized life support requirements as designated by the work area. Fine‑motor skills and documentation capabilities. Ability to use computers and learn new software programs. Navigation skills to provide clinical care for patients. Physical endurance for prolonged standing and walking. Organization and focus in continuing care activities. Prior knowledge of sterile techniques, sanitation, personal hygiene, infection control, and safety precautions. Understanding of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements. Pre‑employment Physical Capacity Testing required.
