Assistant Project Manager

This position is located in Cedar Rapids, IA on a job site. Once the job is completed, full-time employment will be assessed in Ames, IA. ACI Mechanical is a full-service, merit‑shop, design‑build commercial and industrial mechanical contractor founded in 1945. The team includes engineers, project managers, skilled welders, pipe fitters, sheet metal mechanics, service technicians, and support staff dedicated to serving our clients. Job Summary Seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our team. This role covers pre‑construction project management and coordination of job activities, with the potential to progress to a Junior Project Manager within five years. Duties Complete job opening paperwork Set up and maintain project book; post addendums, bid changes in specs and drawings; submit reviews Acquire quotes from vendors and subcontractors Copy and file construction documents Track material deliveries, prices, and input change requests; perform quantity takeoffs of materials; check material orders Prepare and process O&M schedules Communicate with staff, customers, vendors, architects, engineers, etc. Attend job‑related meetings Monitor job progress; retrieve and deliver information; maintain drawings Assist in estimating and purchasing on a per‑job basis Travel out‑of‑town and overnight may be required Other duties as assigned by the General Manager Qualifications Degree in project management, construction, or related field, or at least four years of construction experience Strong reading, writing, listening, and communication skills in English Valid driving record meeting company requirements Successful passing of pre‑employment drug screening Benefits Paid time off, including paid holidays Company 401(k) plan with company match Health, dental, vision insurance Paid bereavement leave Critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident, life, and identity insurance Employee assistance program (EAP) Medical and dependent care flex benefits plans Safety boot reimbursement Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Primarily works in the office with potential for travel. Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, loud noises, and other hazards within OSHA standards when visiting the jobsite. Outdoor conditions may include inclement weather such as heat, humidity, cold, wind, and dust. May be expected to carry up to 30 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, stand for long periods, walk moderate‑to‑long distances on varying surfaces, climb, crawl, crouch, reach, grip, push, and pull without issue.
