Occupational TherapistThe Office of Exceptional Education strives to provide a continuum of services to ensure that all students have a quality education that meets their unique needs and prepares them to be productive, contributing members of a global society. The Occupational Therapist will serve as a part of a team of related service providers who support students in accessing their educational program within the comprehensive and/or private day school environment.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Functions as a member of multi-disciplinary teams to evaluate student function, identifying those requiring school-based therapy services, appropriate programming, and ongoing progressEvaluates the needs of students, design and implement appropriate therapies, prepare and maintain appropriate recordsChooses activities to improve student performance in the skill areas (i.e. gross motor, fine motor, perceptual, visual motor, sensory system integration, positioning, feeding, daily living, etc.) necessary for accessing the curriculum, learning, and functioning within the school environmentIdentifies, acquires, and supports the use of accommodations or equipment necessary to facilitate student access to the curriculumAssists with modification of school tasks to accommodate the needs of studentsReviews and participates in the development of IEPs, evaluation, assessment, and progress reportsMaintains specified records with data on each student referred, evaluated, and/or identified for ongoing occupational therapy servicesSubmits records, reports, and assignments promptly and efficientlyEstablishes and monitors caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage school-based occupational therapy servicesProvides other related, direct services through a variety of methods (e.g., classroom presentations, in-services to staff/parents, etc.) as neededAdheres to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programsParticipates in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance direct servicesSupports and implements district policies, regulations, procedures, and administrative directivesQualifications:Bachelor's or Master's degree in occupational therapy, from an accredited universityAppropriate license as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Health ProfessionsPossession of or ability to obtain a National Provider Identification (NPI) number prior to employmentThorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of school-based occupational therapy servicesExcellent organizational, and oral and written communication skillsBilingual skills to include Spanish preferredAbility to work independently and to effectively handle multiple school assignmentsPossession of a valid Virginia Driver's License and use of a personal vehiclePay Scale: Teacher's salary scaleStart Date: Based on School Board approval
