Physician AssistantThe primary purpose of the PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT, GS-0603-12, is to provide a professional Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to plan, schedule, execute, manage, and administer installation-wide Medical management.This is a T5 Excepted Service, Permanent/Indefinite/Temporary position. Indefinite appointment cannot exceed 5 years. Selectee may be non-competitively converted to permanent status if/when funding becomes available or position becomes unencumbered. Temporary appointment: Selectee may be non-competitively extended up to 4 years if/when funding becomes available.Responsibilities include:Requesting consultations to assist on interpretation of abnormal studies and discussing the interpretation of abnormal studies with the member's treating provider.Reviewing civilian and military medical provider documentation and/or referrals to determine appropriate medical management of ANG members and required referrals including, but not limited to, aeromedical and operational dispositions.Ensuring referrals include the appropriate level of severity/urgency of the care needed.Evaluating adherence to medical care plan to include scheduled medical, physical therapy, and mental health appointments.Administering comprehensive medical assessments, physical assessments, and preventative medical service to Air National Guard ANG members at an ANG Wing.Performing comprehensive physical assessments of ANG members to include full physical assessments, significant past medical and surgical history, family history, social history, recording/reviewing current medications, and immunization history.Requesting, ordering, and interpreting laboratory tests related to Individual Medical Readiness (IMR), mobility and retention standards, and flying standards.Requesting, evaluating, and applying the findings of radiological studies.Performing person to person provider contact in mental health assessments.Analyzing data across all medical programs and reporting medical trends.Oversight of compliance and execution of deployment health assessments and other deployment related services, such as IMR, Immunizations, Separation History and Physical Examinations (SHPE), Pre and Post Deployment Health Assessment Program (DRHA, Automated Neuropsychological Assessments (ANAM).Ensuring compliance with and preparation for readiness of unit compliance inspections, evaluations, audits, and staff assistance visits including Unit Effectiveness Inspection (UEI).Monitoring preflight crew briefings, crew resource management (CRM) from show time to release.Monitoring crew for potential health and safety concerns/hazards.Providing operational safety and mishap prevention briefings.Providing grounding management by reviewing medical documentation, performing necessary physical assessments, preparing the DD Form 2992, and ensuring review/signature by the Flight Surgeon.Required to regularly observe and advise on aeromedical problems.The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military. In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force.
