Senior Tax Accountant

ProspectBlue has partnered with a mid sized firm in Richmond, VA and is seeking a Tax Senior. The ideal candidate will prepare and reviews complex tax returns and supports client engagements from start to finish. This role supervises and develops junior staff, manages workflow and deadlines, and serves as a key point of contact for clients and managers.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for corporations / partnerships / individuals / trusts
• Review work prepared by staff and interns, providing clear, constructive feedback
• Research tax issues and draft technical memos and client-ready summaries
• Identify tax planning opportunities and communicate them to managers and clients
• Manage multiple engagements, budgets, and deadlines, and keep managers informed of status
• Communicate with clients to gather information, answer questions, and resolve issues
• Assist with responses to IRS and state notices and with tax audits
• Support tax provision work, when applicable
• Mentor and train junior team members
• Stay current on tax law changes and firm technology and tools

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field
• 3 to 5 years of relevant public accounting or corporate tax experience
• Working knowledge of federal and state tax compliance
• Proficiency with tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess, GoSystem, Corptax, UltraTax) and Excel
• Strong research, analytical, and written communication skills

Preferred

• CPA license, or actively working toward it
• Master's degree in accounting or taxation
• Experience reviewing returns and supervising staff
• Industry experience in real estate / financial services / technology / etc.
