Job Title CARDIAC SONOGRAPHER Job Code 4587 FLSA N Job Level G2 Revised Date 02/23/2026 Job Overview Perform daily clinical operations of Echocardiography, including performing echocardiograms, entering preliminary interpretation, covering all sites and shifts, including call coverage. Duties and Responsibilities Level I: Demonstrates proficiency by performing routine and emergency echocardiograms including 2‑D, 3‑D, Doppler, transesophageal, and stress examinations. Provides service at necessary locations, works variable shifts and weekends, and maintains equipment operation and preventive maintenance. Prepares preliminary reports, participates in quality improvement, maintains logs, instructs trainees, and attends meetings. Level II: Actively participates in patient testing, performing routine, non‑routine, urgent and emergent requests. Provides advanced cardiac ultrasound services with independent judgment, assists physicians with guided studies, serves as preceptor, and acts as site Charge Sonographer. Level III: Performs advanced services such as congenital, myocardial mechanics, 3‑D imaging, and stress studies with independent judgment. Serves as expert resource, provides in‑service education, ensures protocol implementation, maintains laboratory policies, monitors ICAEL requirements, and organizes accreditation processes. Education & Certifications Graduate or completion of a program that meets eligibility for registry/certification or currently holds required registry or certification. ARDMS/CCI certification in Echocardiography (required). ARDMS/CCI certification within 18 months of hire. BLS certification required. Experience Level I: No experience required beyond education/certification, but must obtain ARDMS certification within 18 months. Level II: Minimum of two years’ experience as a sonographer. Level III: Minimum of four years’ experience within the specialty modality. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in operating echocardiography equipment, analyzing patient data, preparing reports, and ensuring quality.
