The Cardiac Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist under the direction of the Cath Lab Supervisor is responsible for performing the daily operations for the Cardiac Cath Lab. The role includes direct and indirect patient care, scrubbing for diagnostic/interventional cases and hemodynamic monitoring. Other departmental duties as assigned include ordering supplies, maintaining inventory and cost efficiency, providing information toward future needs, and actively supporting process improvement within the department. The technologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age‑related needs of adults and adult‑geriatric patients in the Cath Lab, and assumes responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance as directed by the laboratory. Roles and Responsibilities Assist the cardiologist in the performance of diagnostic invasive procedures. Maintain operational knowledge of Cath Lab equipment according to manufacturer specifications. Assist and perform diagnostic invasive procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab, scrubbing and assisting the cardiologist as requested. Respond to patient distress situations and assist with equipment quality control and inventory management. Prepare sterile trays, instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for procedures, and maintain a sterile field. Provide all appropriate services to safely and efficiently complete patient procedures. Maintain knowledge of cardiac concepts and clinical practices. Ensure patients are correctly prepped and draped in a sterile fashion. Possess the knowledge & skills level of basic and complex invasive procedures which may include: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), stents, IABP placement and operation and peripheral interventions. Ensure patient safety in the CCL and recognize cardiac arrhythmias, responding according to emergency protocols, operating an external cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator, and intervening with appropriate therapy in the event of cardiac emergencies. Maintain, troubleshoot, and operate fluoroscopy equipment to ensure operability and safety. Calibrate equipment and perform routine preventive maintenance procedures. Assume off‑premise call responsibilities as required to assure complete call coverage. Collect all pertinent diagnostic data and all necessary calculations for physician’s interpretation of results. Be flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above. Demonstrates Thorough Knowledge of Department Procedures and Protocols Capable of setting acquisition factors for optimal image quality. Capable of positioning patient for optimal images. Capable of following protocols for specific exams. Capable of evaluating images for quality. Capable of accurately following physician’s instructions. Demonstrates Thorough Knowledge of Imaging Department Policies Consistently follows patient identification policy. Understands the correct exam needed and patient factors. Documents any changes/variations to protocol on requisition. Follows all P+P regarding use of ISTAT (per sites worked). Required Skills and Experience Education: Graduate of an AART‑Accredited School of Radiologic Technology, holding an Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Technology. Experience: 2 years experience in Radiologic Technology with 1 year of Cath Lab/Peripheral and/or Interventional Radiology Experience preferred. Licensure/Registry: Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology (RT); required to have or successfully complete American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BLS) training by the end of orientation. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Current NYS License. Additional Skills: Ability to successfully complete generic and department‑specific skill validation and competency testing. Pass cardiac dysrhythmias test. Preferred Skills and Experience Problem solving ability and attention to detail. Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes. Physical Requirements Must be able to push, pull, bend, safely transfer patients and ambulate without assistance. Job requires standing for prolonged periods and frequently bending/stooping/walking. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift, push, pull 20–50 lb. Location and Travel Requirements Onsite at Cayuga Medical Center – 101 Dates Dr, Ithaca, NY 14850. Shift: Full‑time – days (FLEX). Anticipated schedule 5 × 8‑hour shifts Monday through Friday. STEMI call coverage required. Ability to flex should department or patient scheduling needs change. 0‑5 % travel can be expected. Pay Range Disclosure Standard rate of $36.25 to $45.87 per hour plus benefits.
