Role Summary The Emergency Services Technician provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Emergency Department Manager while supporting physicians and nursing staff in the delivery of emergency medical services. This role is responsible for assisting with patient care, performing clinical procedures, maintaining equipment, and ensuring supplies are stocked and readily available to support efficient emergency department operations. Alerts RN to any patients expressing the desire or demonstrating behaviors concerning for leaving without being seen. - May perform phlebotomy as ordered by the provider or per Nursing Protocol orders - Performs circulating role during trauma activations - Performs POCT (and daily QI) and documents results; follows procedure for reporting critical results - Performs EKGs as ordered by the provider or per Nursing protocol orders - Responds to call bells - Assists patients as needed (e.g., ambulation, bed pans, comfort measures) - Performs hourly rounding in conjunction with the ED RN; documents same in the EHR - Performs 1:1 suicide watch as requested - Performs the sitter role as requested - Identifies needed repairs to equipment or department and submits work orders for same - Maintains pre-hospital equipment in an organized clean manner and communicates with pre-hospital providers - Participates in ED staff meetings and ED Shared Governance Other Duties: - Performs clerical tasks and duties as assigned - Other duties to support departmental operations as assigned - High School Diploma or GED required. Skills - Strong critical thinking and clinical assessment skills. - Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced emergency care environment. - Proficiency in phlebotomy, EKGs, cardiac monitoring, and IV placement. - Ability to interact professionally with patients, families, providers, staff, and community partners. - Strong customer service and teamwork skills. - Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining quality patient care. Compensation Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and Guthrie's established compensation practices. Additional Notes - Per Diem position supporting the Emergency Department at Troy Community Hospital. - Provides direct patient care to patients of all ages and interacts with family members as needed. - Frequently exposed to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, hazardous substances, and other healthcare-related hazards. - Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and patient movement throughout the shift. - Must be able to occasionally push, move, or assist with lifting more than 100 pounds using appropriate equipment and safe patient handling techniques. - Requires adaptability in a fast-paced, high-acuity emergency environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. - Participates in quality improvement initiatives and complies with all hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards. - Other duties may be assigned based on departmental operational needs.
