Surgical Technician Position at UAMS

The Surgical Technician assembles supplies for surgical procedures, sets up and maintains the sterile field, passes surgical instruments, and assists in room preparation. This professional role will require the ability to coordinate care and anticipate the needs for the surgical case; assisting the surgeon, nurses, other members of the team to provide an optimal outcome for the patient and work collaboratively with clinic providers, fellows, and staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduate of NBSTSA-accredited Surgical Technology program OR graduate of NCCT-approved Surgical Technology program OR completed military surgical/scrub tech training OR have two or more years of on-the-job surgical/scrub experience in an acute care facility or ambulatory surgery center.
Responsibilities:
- Assessment of the surgical procedure.
- Ensures availability of appropriate instrumentation, supplies and equipment for assigned cases.
- Preparation of the OR.
- Ensures that the room has been prepared for the upcoming cases, with appropriate equipment available and ready for surgical use.
- Ensures that the instruments are cleaned arranged and transported to the soiled workroom according to department policy.
- Independently assists with instrument reprocessing tasks when assigned cases are completed and time permits.
- Ensures that the operating rooms are ready for the following day's cases.
- Exhibits practical knowledge of OR equipment including maintenance and safety aspects.
- Utilizes available communication tools.
- Demonstrates teamwork by offering assistance to other team members.
- Shares knowledge of information and expertise with other staff.
- Attends departmental in-services and other educational offerings.
- Consistently demonstrates new knowledge and skills through incorporation into actual clinical practice.
- Willing to learn new techniques.
- Other duties assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Very Heavy Work | Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- The Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and/or visual inspection at distances close to the eyes.
- The Employee is subject to inside environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- Constant physical activities: Hearing; Manipulate items with fingers, including keyboarding
- Frequent physical activities: Balancing; Feeling; Grasping; Kneeling; Lifting; Pulling; Pushing; Reaching; Repetitive Motion; Sharps; Standing; Stooping; Talking; Walking
