Senior Principal Architect

Role Description

HERE Technologies is building a digital representation of reality at global scale. As Senior Principal Architect – Visuals and 3D Mapping, you define and drive a visual-first map platform, combining AI, 3D world modeling, and scalable data pipelines. You act as a technical visionary and hands-on architect, shaping how visual data becomes structured, queryable map intelligence, leveraging computer vision, world models, and Universal Scene Description (USD) based scene representations.

• Define end-to-end architecture for visual-to-map pipelines (imagery → 3D → semantic maps)
• Lead scalable systems for 3D and visual geospatial data processing and serving
• Drive AI-based map creation (CNNs, multi-modal fusion, feature extraction)
• Architect use of world foundation models for scene understanding and simulation
• Standardize USD (Universal Scene Description) as canonical world representation
• Build pipelines for map creation and offline export products
• Advance algorithmic 3D modeling (splines, procedural geometry, parametric structures)
• Drive Data Modeling for 3D map features
• Align platform architecture with ADAS, digital twin, and map product needs
• Provide technical leadership across teams, mentoring architects and engineers

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software architecture, 3D platforms, or geospatial systems
• Proven leadership in large-scale platform architecture and technical strategy
• Strong expertise in computer vision / deep learning (CNNs, multi-modal AI)
• Strong understanding of 3D representations (DTM, TIN, multiresolution LOD)
• Familiarity with modern 3D and AI toolchains
• Experience with 3D scene representations and graphics pipelines
• Hands-on knowledge of USD or similar 3D frameworks
• Background in mapping, GIS, or location-based services
• Knowledge of a wide array of tools in the 3D and deep Learning domain (3D modelling, SfM, PyTorch, Tensorflow,…)
• Experience with distributed systems, cloud platforms, and large-scale data processing
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders

Requirements

• The expected base salary range for this position is $200,000 to $210,000 per year.
• Actual compensation will be based on factors such as skills and experience.
• This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, which is subject to company and individual performance.
