Tenure-Track Assistant or Tenured Associate Professor Faculty Position in RNA Science and Technology

Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or tenured Associate Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Biology in the field of RNA Science and Technology . As a part of the Faculty 100 strategic initiative , we seek candidates developing innovative experimental and computational approaches to understand, visualize, or therapeutically target RNA and RNA machines, but all areas of RNA biology will be considered. Indiana University Bloomington provides a highly collaborative environment for RNA research, with existing strengths in structural biology, virology, genomics, computational biology, RNA regulation and modification, and synthetic biology.

We encourage applications from scholars who apply interdisciplinary perspectives and share important research overlap with current IUB scholars, while also offering new dimensions that will expand and strengthen RNA science at IUB. Researchers have access to state-of-the-art facilities for genomics, light microscopy, physical biochemistry, structural biology (cryo-electron and crystallography) and advanced high-performance computing resources.

This 10‐month appointment would ideally start August 1, 2027 , but start date is negotiable.

Responsibilities: Tenured/tenure-track faculty are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research program including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding to conduct cutting-edge research as a principal investigator; teaching and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students; and participating in service within the department, school and university and actively engaging with their professional community.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should possess a doctoral degree and demonstrate a strong record of scholarly achievement appropriate to the level of appointment.

• Candidates applying at the Assistant Professor level should provide evidence of research productivity through first- or corresponding-author peer-reviewed publications, presentations of research at relevant scientific or professional conferences, and other indicators of scholarly impact. Candidates should also demonstrate strong potential to secure external research funding.
• Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Professor level must demonstrate a sustained record of scholarly achievement commensurate with a tenured appointment. This should include a record of extramurally funded research as principal investigator, an established body of corresponding-author publications, evidence of visibility and engagement within the broader scholarly community, and experience leading substantial research initiatives.

The position is based in the Department of Biology , a large, unified department within the College of Arts and Sciences. Biology offers strong undergraduate programs, nationally ranked graduate programs, and a broad, collaborative research environment. Research in the department spans biological questions and experimental systems across scales, from ecosystems, evolution, and organismal biology to microbiology, developmental and cell biology, molecular and systems biology, bioinformatics, and genomics.
