Job Title: GI Lab Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Gastroenterology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (07:00 - 15:30) Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required License: Active nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Previous travel experience preferred - EPIC experience preferred - Call required 1 weekday (15:30 - 07:00) - 3 weekend on-call shifts per contract Description: The GI Lab consists of 11 pre/post bays and 3 procedure rooms. This unit exclusively services gastrointestinal patients. Shift is 5x8 days from 07:00 to 15:30. Call duties are required 1 time per week from 15:30 to 07:00, and 3 on-call weekends from Friday 15:30 to Monday 07:00. Patient population includes adults and geriatrics. Required certifications include BLS and ACLS. Charting experience with a specific system is needed. Skills required include airway management, assisting with colonoscopy and EGD, and various endoscopic procedures. Responsibilities also include starting and maintaining IVs, and handling specimen labeling. The daily census is approximately 25 patients. There are 3 procedure rooms and 11 beds in the unit. Interdisciplinary support includes respiratory services, radiology, and pharmacy. Common patient diagnoses include GI bleed, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis. Special procedures performed include endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and small bowel capsule endoscopy. The unit requires a high level of teamwork and communication skills.
