About the Position

First-timers accepted. No weekend requirement. Manager approval required after reviewing resumes. Description: The outpatient cancer center provides intravenous administration of medication, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and blood products. Direct specialized patient care and education for the outpatient oncology population, including bone marrow transplant and hematology patients. Primary duties include port access with lab collection, central line care with dressing changes, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, and phlebotomy blood draws if central line access is not working. Responsibilities also involve chemotherapy pump disconnect, vaccinations, and performing EKGs. The facility is a short-term acute care hospital with a significant number of staffed beds. Interdisciplinary support services include interpretation services, phlebotomy, social services, and pharmacy. Patient diagnoses include breast, lung, prostate, gastrointestinal, sickle cell disease, hematology disorders, and hematologic cancers. The ratio of patients to nurses is 1:4. Travelers must float within the service line to meet facility needs. Mandatory certifications include BLS and Chemotherapy certification. Special skills required include accessing and managing ports, administering blood and blood products, administering chemotherapy, managing side effects, and providing patient and family education and support. Additional skills include phlebotomy, PICC line care, and central line/implanted line care. Familiarity with Epic or other charting systems is preferred. This role demands knowledge in the care and management of various cancers and associated treatments.
