Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor Title: Certified SUD Counselor Division: HOPICS FLSA: Non-Exempt/Full time Supervisor: Drug Medi-Cal Program Manager Pay Range: $29.00 - $33.00 per hour Summary Certified SUD Counselor: Under the direction of the DMC Program Supervisor, the Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor will provide individual and group services to the DMC Program clients, including intakes, assessments, treatment planning, counseling services, and recovery services. Essential Functions Provide group and individual SUD counseling services using evidence‑based practice theory. Provide case management and care coordination services. Facilitate collaboration with SUD clients to develop treatment planning documents and relapse prevention plans. Provide services in both English and Spanish as required. Document progress notes daily within 24 hours of service. Enter client data into the designated EHR/PCNX system. Administer drug tests/UA/Toxicology to Drug Medi‑Cal clients following correct protocols. Meet or exceed 70% productivity as outlined by SSG. Document in accordance with established standards of care daily. Maintain professional boundaries, adhere to SSG's Code of Ethics and HOPICS' Core Values, and represent the agency at meetings and community events. Maintain client files/records in compliance with HIPAA & CFR42 and other funding requirements for auditing purposes. Participate in weekly supervision (group/individual). Work effectively with people experiencing homelessness. Serve adults with co‑occurring substance use, history of abuse, and mental/physical/developmental disabilities. Serve clients from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio‑economic backgrounds. Communicate effectively, both written and orally, in Spanish for treatment of Spanish‑speaking clients. Motivate and communicate effectively with individuals receiving SUD counseling/treatment. Participate in required meetings, trainings, collaborations, and Behavioral Health Team meetings. Attend other meetings, training sessions, and seminars as needed. Secondary Functions Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor, Senior Manager, Associate Director of Behavioral Health Services, and/or Division Director. Support administrative and data‑related IT department functions. Work overtime, holiday, or weekend as required. Minimum Qualifications Verification of Employment Eligibility and Background Check. 5 years of SUD Counselor work experience. Knowledge of DSM‑V Substance Abuse Criteria. Knowledge of 12‑step programs. Ability to manage group settings. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor with approved certifying board: CAADE, CCAPP, or CADTP. Annual TB test clearance. Maintain and uphold Agency mission statement, values, policies, procedures, and principles. Driver's license with proof of valid and up‑to‑date car insurance. Reliable transportation. Minimum of three (3) years of being drug and alcohol free if in recovery. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge of addictions and effects/symptoms of drug/alcohol use. Proficiency in providing substance use disorder treatment in both English and Spanish (Spanish a plus). Ability to handle trauma and maintain professional boundaries. Environmental Conditions This position requires extensive interaction with homeless individuals, people with severe mental and physical disabilities, and possible dangers associated with high crime areas. Exposure to aggressive and hostile clients may occur. The incumbent must be prepared to deal with trauma and work with collaborative staff and community agencies. Physical Requirements Time spent sitting, standing, typing, writing, walking, driving, listening, and speaking. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Mental Requirements Ability to perform effectively under unpredictable situations, crisis, constant distractions, interruptions, uncontrollable changes in priorities/work schedules. Ability to process information, think, conceptualize, and deal with personal trauma that may be triggered.
