Engineering Technician IV

On the Kennedy Propellants and Life Support Services (KPLSS II) program on Kennedy Space Center FL, perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed. Selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment. Using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer. Performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Construct components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
• Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
• Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.
• Extract and compile a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.
• Assist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts.
• Develop information concerning previous operational failures and modifications.
• Use judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

High School diploma, or equivalent, and 10 years of job-related experience. Good communication and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). US citizenship is required for restricted area access. A driver's license is required to independently travel onto and around KSC property.

Preferred Qualifications:

Five years direct job related experience. Associate's degree or technical trade certification in engineering field. Local candidates. No relocation allowance provided.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Most positions involve work typical of office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Some positions involve work in environments where mechanical equipment, is being installed, tested, analyzed/monitored, operated, and/or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy or have exposed moving components. Such positions may involve routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.
