Equipment Operator Positions

The City of Boynton Beach is offering positions for Equipment Operator Trainee, Equipment Operator I, Equipment Operator II, and Equipment Operator III within the Solid Waste division. These roles involve driving and operating various vehicles and equipment for solid waste removal.

Salary ranges from $15.75 to $26.43 per hour depending on the level of the position. The job is full-time and is located at Public Works, 222 NE 9th Avenue, Boynton Beach, FL.

Purpose of Classification

The purpose of these classifications is to drive or operate vehicles and equipment where driving and maneuvering the vehicle constitutes the majority of the work required to complete tasks for solid waste removal. Equipment in these classifications does not involve the operation of additional mechanisms other than those that are simple and routine requiring little extra dexterity and finesse. Classification is reserved for those positions where operation of included equipment is the primary function of the job.

Essential Functions

The essential functions vary by classification but generally include driving and operating solid waste vehicles, performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, obeying traffic laws and safety guidelines, using personal protective equipment, and performing various physical tasks related to solid waste removal.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications vary by classification:

• Equipment Operator Trainee: One year of experience in manual labor, construction, equipment operation, solid waste, or closely related area; valid Florida driver's license; obtain a Florida Commercial Learner's Permit (CPL) and OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Card within six months.
• Equipment Operator I: One year of experience in Solid Waste residential line of business; valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL); pass written and equipment specific field tests; obtain 10-Hour OSHA General Industry Card and Lock Out/Tag Out Certification within 90 days.
• Equipment Operator II: Two years of experience in Solid Waste residential line of business; valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL); pass written and equipment specific field tests; obtain 30-Hour OSHA General Industry Card, FEMA IS-0552, Lock Out Tag Out Certification within 90 days.
• Equipment Operator III: Four years of experience operating vehicles in Solid Waste; valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL); pass written and equipment specific field tests; obtain 30-Hour OSHA General Industry Course, FEMA IS-0552, FEMA IS-0558, Lock Out Tag Out Certificate within 90 days.

Supplemental Information

Selected candidates will be required to complete an assessment. Effective communication skills, knowledge of safe working practices, and the ability to interact courteously with various stakeholders are essential. Physical ability to perform heavy work and adhere to safety requirements is also necessary.
