Counselor/ Psychologist

John Carroll University’s Counseling Center is seeking a full‑time Counselor/Psychologist with demonstrated clinical experience working in a college counseling setting and/or with adolescent and young adult populations. Responsibilities include delivering quality clinical care for students, consultation and training for the campus community, supervision and training of practicum students or interns, and participation in team decision‑making about how to develop operations. A primary purpose of this position is to work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the effective provision of high‑quality counseling services to students that reduce barriers to learning and create opportunities for greater academic achievement and student success. Duties and Responsibilities Provide phone screenings, intake evaluations, and individual and group counseling. Provide training and clinical supervision for master’s interns or doctoral practicum counselors. Provide training and consultation to the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, and parents. Provide crisis intervention and, if needed, serve in an emergency on‑call capacity. Participate in assessment and evaluation activities to adapt services to meet the needs of the student body and campus community, using a population health model. Participate in developing and maintaining effective relationships with other campus constituencies, serve on university committees, and regularly attend campus events. Participate actively in national associations relevant to mental health in higher education, complete continuing education and attend a national conference relevant to work in higher education. Perform other functions or duties as assigned by the director. Required Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited program in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or related field. Licensed in Ohio to provide mental health treatment (LPC or LPCC, LSW or LISW, or licensed psychologist). Demonstrated knowledge of the developmental and psychological issues of college students and ability to establish effective rapport with this population. Possess and demonstrate the ability to work with diverse constituencies and have excellent skills in oral and written communication. Preferred Qualifications Licensed in Ohio to provide clinical supervision (LPCC‑S, LISW‑S, or licensed Psychologist). Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse clients and interest in working with issues of identity and culture. Prior experience working in a college counseling center. Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions This position works in person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio. University core business hours are generally 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. However, this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on department operations. Generally, hours will likely include some regular clinical evening hours (about 2 hours/week after 5 pm) as well as occasional evening and weekend outreach responsibilities. Availability to work some nights and weekends when needed, in order to ensure a quality student experience is an expectation for this position. Additionally, this individual may serve in an on‑call capacity on a rotating basis. Physical Requirements Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Hours Full Time Starting Salary and Benefits Starting salary will be $50,000–$55,000 (10 month) commensurate with qualifications.
