Physician Assistant - Gastroenterology

Summary The Gastroenterology PA-C responsibilities include managing patients and working in conjunction with and under supervision of the Gastroenterologist to provide specialty care services in the Gastroenterology clinic, specialty clinic, infusion clinic, and ambulatory surgery. Duties Evaluate consultations and discuss with the gastroenterologist recommendations regarding work up, management, and follow up. Routine follow‑up of outpatient gastroenterology patients, including ordering labs, imaging studies, and additional follow‑up. Notify the appropriate provider of abnormal labs and imaging studies. Routine follow‑up and management of gastroenterology clinic patients. Refill medications related to gastroenterology disorders. Coordinate endoscopies with anesthesia, the Impact clinic, the gastroenterologist, and/or surgeons. Respond to Secure Message emails from patients and answer calls from patients and their families. Assist with obtaining non‑VA medical records before a patient is scheduled in the Gastroenterology Clinic if the patient is transferring care to the VA. Screen gastroenterology consults to arrange timely scheduling of patients and their care. Order labs and renew medication refills as needed prior to the clinic appointment. Act as the point of contact for patients and their families if they need help with scheduling appointments, referrals, or navigating the VA system. Consult with attending physicians and others when requested to augment the care of patients. Refer patients with medical, surgical, or psychiatric conditions not covered by privileges to appropriate health‑care practitioners. Manage transfers into and out of the facility. Coordinate hand‑off communication after hours. Write orders for or prescribe medications.
