Medical Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking a skilled Medical Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) for an exciting 13-week contract opportunity on a high-volume unit. This role entails working 4x12 hour shifts during the night, providing care to complex medical and orthopedic patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a fast-paced Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit.
• Monitor patient telemetry and manage critical care situations, including responding to rapid response and code teams.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including blood product administration and IV therapies.
• Manage and care for central lines, PICC lines, feeding tubes, and tracheostomies.
• Implement isolation precautions and perform wound care including the use of wound vacs.
• Assist in high-flow oxygen therapy, including nasal cannulas and face masks.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate patient progress and adjust care plans as needed.
• Provide education to patients and families regarding care plans and health management.

Qualifications

• Active New York nursing license is required.
• Minimum of one year of experience in a Medical Surgical/Telemetry setting preferred.
• Experience in patient management with a ratio of 1:5 to 1:7.
• Charge nurse experience is required.
• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record (EHR) system is essential.
• Current certifications in BLS and NIHSS, with valid NIHSS certification to be included in the application.

Work Schedule

This position involves a night shift schedule, working 4x12 hours from 7 PM to 7 AM, with every other weekend required. Floating to other units may be necessary to meet patient care needs.

Patient Population

The RN will provide care to a diverse patient population, primarily in a complex care setting for medical, orthopedic overflow, and long-term patients.

Preferred Skills

• Telemetry monitoring experience.
• Ability to manage and administer care related to orthopedic trauma and total joint replacements.
• Experience with surgical drains and high-flow oxygen therapy.
