Clamp Truck Operator

Join the WestRock team in Sioux City, IA as a Clamp Truck Operator. Available Shift(s): 2nd. Starting Wage Range: $20.06/hr with increases to $21.13/hr after 60 days. All employees must:

• Be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
• Be able to develop rudimentary data entry skill to input their daily dairies and machine production counts.
• Have corrected vision that will enable them to:
1. Read a factory order card
2. Compare a print card to a printed box
3. Distinguish imperfections in a printed box
4. Read all signs posted in the plant and on the machines
5. View oncoming traffic in ceiling mounted mirrors
6. Read warning labels on package containers
7. Read M.S.D.S. sheets
8. Accurately read a tape rule to 1/16th graduations
• Have the ability to distinguish colors and discern different hues of the same color to compare them to color swatches to ensure the print is of the correct hue. Also be able to tell the difference in colors of the various Start/Stop buttons and safety and warning lights in the plant.
• Have the ability to hear warning buzzers, sirens and other employees in the plant floor environment.
• Have the ability to repeatedly step up and down from the conveyor system, which is raised approximately 11 inches from the plant floor. They must be able to repeatedly navigate across the conveyor system on crosswalks approximately 3 inches wide.
• Have basic math skills; addition, subtraction, division & multiplication.
• Must be able to tie a bundling knot. This requires finger dexterity and twisting of the wrist and forearms as well as a pulling motion with the arms and upper back to tighten then cut the twine.
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by each job task. Eye protection and hearing protection (plugs, muffs) are required at all times on the production room floor. Kevlar gloves are required when there is any danger of being cut, such as working around blades or banding (plastic or metal)
• All employees are required to wear a red S.A.F.E. hat or visor during their probationary period any time they are on the production room floor.

All employees will, during the course of their employment, encounter handling 48" x 48" pallets weighing approximately 50 lbs. On some jobs it is done repetitively.

Physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

• Standing for long periods of time
• Sitting for long periods of time
• Bending (sometimes repeatedly)
• Squatting or kneeling (sometimes repeatedly)
• Repetitive motion or twisting in the hands, wrists, upper and lower arms, shoulders, waist and back.
• Gripping while using various hand tools, turning various adjustment knobs and dials, clearing jams and picking up handfuls of sheets.

Job Tasks

• Required to pass a written and driving test to obtain an operator's license.
• Must possess the ability to quickly familiarize themselves to differences in the controls of several trucks.
• Basic mechanical ability is required to perform start of shift checks and daily P.M.s
• Occasionally required to mount and dismount the truck. This requires a 'three points' procedure in which one is grasping a hand hold with one hand at approximately eye level, the other hand at waist to chest level grasping the seat and pulling their weight, while stepping onto the truck approximately 2 feet off the floor. Then, turning 90to settle into the seat.

• Frequently required to operate the lift in reverse. This involves turning, at the waist, in the seat approximately 45and turning the head approximately 45 for proper vision.
• The lifts have no suspension; the seat and hard rubber tires provide minimal cushioning, so the operator is continually subjected to bouncing from imperfections in the floor or the uneven situations when crossing dock plates.
• The operator is continually turning their head from side to side to watch for traffic or reading tags on bayed stock.
• The operator must frequently look up, using the full range of neck motion, while placing stock to the full reach of the lift mast or looking to read information on an item stacked close to the ceiling.
• The operator must have good depth perception to judge the distance from one object to another to avoid collisions and to stack stock safely and correctly. Their peripheral vision must be good enough to see objects approaching from the sides of the lift.
• The operator must continually check Corrugator lineups and be able to coordinate the activities of:

1. keeping the corrugator stocked at all times
2. keep the roll stock area neat and organized
3. unloading highway vans
4. keep the starch area neat & clean
5. assist the corrugator crew where & when needed (see each job requirement)
6. assist the corrugator crew with their hogging duties

• Occasionally a load of stock is spilled; the operator is required to pick sheets off the floor to a maximum height of 65 inches. These sheets can be from 9 inches wide by 21 inches long to a maximum of 98 inches wide to 138 inches long and of numerous grades and weights.
• The operator is occasionally required to change L.P.G. fuel tanks on the lift. They must:

1. Use the appropriate P.P.E.
2. Use a twisting motion of the wrist to unscrew the fuel line from the tank
3. Lift the empty tank weighing approximately 20 to 40 lbs. From its position on the truck approximately chest high.
4. Transport the empty (either by carrying or using a two-wheeled hand truck) to the tank racks outside, approximately 50 ft from the plant south entrance, down a stairway of 6 steps 48 inches tall. ( this distance is in addition to the distance from where the truck is parked inside the building)
5. Put the empty in an empty shelf in the tank rack, which can be from 9 inches off the cement for the lowest shelf to 70 inches from the cement for the top shelf.
6. Remove a full tank, weighing approximately50-60 lbs. from a tank rack shelf.
7. Transport the full container back to the truck reversing the above steps.

The above tasks are only the primary functions of this position. The person performing this job description is not limited to these tasks and is required to perform any task pertaining to the operation of the above machine.

Employees of all job classifications may be reassigned to other job tasks* on an 'as needed' basis, as determined by the shift supervisor. They may be reassigned due to lack of work, machine break down or more urgent need on another task, as determined by the shift supervisor. They may be assigned to plant cleanup** or any other task needing to be performed.

**Plant cleanup includes but is not limited to; sweeping, painting, sorting, mopping, wiping machines or walls or any plant fixture, snow removal, climbing ladders to clean the roof, cleaning debris from the cyclone area in all weather conditions.
