Help Patients Navigate the Financial Side of Cancer Care

At Suburban Hematology Oncology Associates, our patients are often managing more than their diagnosis. Insurance questions, treatment costs, copays, financial assistance applications, and finding outside resources can add significant stress during an already difficult time.

We're seeking a compassionate and resourceful Patient Financial Assistance Representative to support our Financial Counselors and help patients and families identify financial assistance options and other resources available to them.

This is a hands-on patient support position for someone who combines strong healthcare customer service skills with experience in areas such as patient financial services, financial counseling, patient registration, insurance, billing, collections, or financial assistance.

What You'll Do

• Advocate for patients and help connect them with available financial resources.

• Identify and assist with patient copayment card programs.

• Help patients complete financial assistance applications.

• Research external financial assistance programs, community resources, foundations, transportation services, and other available support.

• Provide patients and families with information and guidance regarding billing, financial assistance, and general financial questions.

• Maintain knowledge of Northside Indigent Program and Charity Care resources.

• Maintain knowledge of applicable community, local, federal, and external assistance programs and foundations.

• Respond to patient concerns and complaints professionally and compassionately.

• Communicate with patients by phone, in writing, and in person.

• Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions, financial assistance activity, grievances, and referrals.

• Work with internal departments to resolve patient concerns and improve the patient experience.

• Assist Financial Counselors with new-patient volume and other assignments.

• Provide backup coverage for Financial Counselors during absences.

• Travel occasionally between clinic locations when coverage or patient needs require it.

What We're Looking ForQualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• 2–3 years of experience in a healthcare setting.

• Previous hospital or clinic experience in patient registration, financial counseling, and/or customer service preferred.

• Knowledge of healthcare insurance, including Medicare, HMOs, PPOs, and commercial insurance plans .

• Understanding of healthcare collections processes.

• Strong computer skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and families who may be distressed or frustrated.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

• Dependable, professional, and comfortable working independently.

Preferred

• Previous patient financial counseling or financial assistance experience.

• Knowledge of medical terminology.

• Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding.

• Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
