Construction Inspector, 206, Engineering

Conducts field inspections for ongoing and new construction projects to ensure work meets plans and specifications. Performs water and sewer tests, attends progress meetings and maintains updated reports and logs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Performs field inspections of structures and materials within assigned department for conformance with plans and specifications. Ensures compliance with the appropriate codes and ordinances. Enforces state and city ordinances and issues citations when necessary. Provides customer service to clarify application process and requirements for submittal to City of Laredo Building Development Services Department. Investigates new/ongoing 311 Call Center requests, generates detailed reports to post on internal system, and contacts Division personnel accordingly. Processes permits; approves or denies proposed scope of work; creates permits and fees using internal system. Generates reports and documentation for City of Laredo Building, Environmental, and Engineering Department records. Coordinates activities with internal and external agencies, committees, and contractors. Prepares and maintains records, drawings, and reports related to projects and activities. Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use. Performs related work as required. Specialty equipment to measure construction accuracy as per required standards. ADA Construction Standards, Texas 811 Excavation & Safety Training, and OSHA Construction Safety and Health. Modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, and GIS. English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Skills and Abilities: Organization and time management. Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature. Maintain professionalism and ethical standards. Perform accurate and complex mathematical calculations. Read and interpret plans. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Meet schedules and deadlines of the work. Maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record. At least three (3) years of experience in construction, engineering, or related field. Required Licenses or Certifications Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Licenses and Certifications to Obtain After Employment Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Water Operator License class “D” must be obtained within 12 months of employment. Additional Requirements As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
