Equipment Maintenance Technician

The TPF Equipment Maintenance Technician The TPF Equipment Maintenance Technician troubleshoots, repairs, maintains, and performs preventative maintenance procedures on equipment used in the recycling of tire material; fills in as a Machine Operator as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs preventative maintenance on all processing equipment and heavy equipment. Fabricates and assembles parts for machinery; performs metal fabrication. Performs basic repairs, replaces parts, and operates shop tools and machinery. Inspects, operates, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots existing and new equipment, including heavy machinery. Maintains clean work area and tools. Disassembles and reassembles parts. Accurately records and submits required paperwork. Follows all safety rules and regulations and helps enforce safety compliance throughout the operation. Operates machinery and heavy equipment and performs physical labor as needed. Physical Requirements The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by the Incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or listen, stand, and walk (including prolonged standing and walking), bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, twist, pull, climb, and reach overhead (occasionally) and forward with hands and arms. Full range of physical mobility including stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, climbing, carrying, reaching, driving, manual dexterity and repetitive heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds) required. Required to employ safety-related personal protective equipment. Hand and finger dexterity, motor control and eye/hand coordination are needed. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor as needed, including pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying heavy objects. Special Requirement: Applicants selected for this position must pass a Pre-Employment Physical with Workplace Health before starting work and may be required to pass a “Fit for Duty” exam by Workplace Health from time to time if there are concerns about the employee’s ability to meet the physical requirements of this position. Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor frequently, including pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying heavy objects. Work involves exposure to hazardous equipment. Work may be frequently performed outdoors with exposure to the elements. Work is occasionally performed at heights on ladders and scaffolding. Varied work hours, including overtime, are common due to the nature of the trade, impact of weather and overall work demands. The position can be stressful and requires ability to successfully cope with the pressures which are related to the position. Qualifications Needed for Position Experience and Skill Requirements At least two years of related equipment maintenance experience and mechanical ability required. Ability to operate and repair manufacturing equipment and heavy equipment. Welding and fabrication experience preferred. Must be able to follow preventive maintenance program. Willingness to learn the tire recycling industry required. Good communications skills, both verbal and written, required. Computer proficiency as required by the position. Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a trade school or vocational program in mechanics, welding, or electrical work preferred. Knowledge and application of effective safety procedures, practices and equipment is required. Knowledge of maintenance, service, and repairs of recycling or related equipment preferred. Understanding of PLC functions and troubleshooting preferred. Understanding of reading drawings and sketches preferred. Understanding of Safety compliance around Lockout Tagout procedures and Hot Work Permits preferred. Understanding of manufacturing processing preferred.
