Accounting Analyst to the Controller

Job Description and Duties

Anticipated Interview Dates: We anticipate holding in-person interviews beginning the week of July 06, 2026.

The CalPERS Financial Office is currently seeking an Accounting Analyst to assist the Controller in managing financial processes, reporting, and general accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment.

The Accounting Analyst will work closely with the Controller to provide analytical support, manage records, prepare reports, assist with budget preparation, and perform other day-to-day accounting tasks to support division objectives and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities: Assist the Controller in the preparation of reports, presentations, and analysis. Manage, maintain, and update financial and administrative records and databases. Support the Controller in budget preparation. Identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounting and operational practices across the division.

Perform a wide range of accounting tasks for the division, including recording, analyzing, and reconciling accounting transactions related to trust, fund, investment, pension, and health accounting.

Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. Special Requirements

Statement of Qualifications
Please provide a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) for the hiring manager’s review. Applications received without an SOQ or those that do not respond to the specific questions below will not be considered.

The SOQ must be typed, titled “Statement of Qualifications,” and each response must be numbered and list all relevant experience, education, and training, including places of employment, dates, and duties performed.

1. Describe your experience supporting a Controller, CFO, or executive management in a financial or accounting capacity. What types of tasks or projects did you handle, and how did your contributions help achieve organizational objectives? 
2. Describe your experience in financial reporting, analysis, and accounting operations. How have you contributed to process improvements, ensured compliance with accounting standards, and collaborated with others to achieve organizational goals? Please provide specific examples as they relate to the duty statement. 

Minimum Qualifications
